Is Texas an American colony and if so should it be given back to Mexico?
Moving in then declaring it part of America seems to be an act of
colonialism and America doesn't like colonialism.
Any thoughts?

Presumably that's a joke at the president's expense, but the serious answer
to the question is no. Texas was a republic, a nation in its own right,
before it joined the Union, AFAIK the only state that can claim that
distinction. Once a northern province of Mexico, it broke from Mexico in a
war of revolution lead by (mostly) immigrant whites and native tejanos,
defeated the central Mexican government in battle ("Remember the Alamo!" and
all that). Texas had a formal national government and constitution for years
before applying for and accepting statehood.
