por Bill Clinton. Debe cesar la persecucion a los que huyen de la isla =

Una vez m=E1s la palabra libertad se me antoja en la imaginaci=F3n como =
un ala herida. Tiene olor a sangre y color de sangre. Sangre inocente. =
Sangre verdadera, que duele y se coagula. Sangre tejida con l=E1grimas y =
espanto, en medio del asombro, por la fr=EDa crueldad de funcionarios =
que intentan imitar en sus acciones a los deshumanizados patrulleros que =
guardan las costas de la isla de Castro.=20
Hace poco m=E1s de cuatro a=F1os, muchos cubanos como yo se sintieron =
felices pensando que el cambio de poder en los Estados Unidos traer=EDa =
la derogaci=F3n de esa pol=EDtica insensible de "pies secos y pies =
mojados" que estren=F3 el Presidente Bill Clinton. Consider=E1bamos que =
los acuerdos migratorios de 1994 eran medidas pol=EDticas de =
complacencia con el dictador Fidel Castro, llamadas a desaparecer con la =
salida de Clinton la Casa Blanca. Analizando la argumentaci=F3n de la =
llamada "seguridad nacional", no encontr=E1bamos raz=F3n para ese cambio =
radical que se le impon=EDa a quienes intentaban llegar a las costas de =
la Florida, luego de escapar de la Isla en cualquier objeto flotante. =
Para nadie es secreto que en los primeros a=F1os del experimento =
diab=F3lico de Castro se estimulaba, inclusive, a ese tipo de salida =
clandestina, que trajo a decenas de miles de cubanos a tierras de =
libertad.=20
Pero la realidad ha sido dolorosa y aleccionadora. Con la nueva =
administraci=F3n, para frustraci=F3n de muchos, entre ellos la m=EDa, =
las medidas persisten, de la misma forma que persiste la agresividad, =
sin que se vislumbre, al menos por el momento, intenci=F3n de cambio =
alguno. Si alguien lo duda que le eche un vistazo a los videos de la =
m=E1s reciente cacer=EDa humana donde los guardacostas norteamericanos =
arremetieron a proazos contra una fr=E1gil embarcaci=F3n, al estilo de =
los patrulleras cubanas que hace algunos a=F1os provocaron el =
hundimiento del remolcador 13 de Marzo, ocasionando la muerte, entre =
otros, a una veintena de ni=F1os.
Duele. Duele muy hondo ese maltrato innecesario por parte de quienes a =
trav=E9s de los a=F1os hemos reconocido como nuestros aliados. Duele la =
insensibilidad. Duele la incomprensi=F3n de las agon=EDas que sufre el =
pueblo de Cuba, y el tener que aceptar que la tragedia que nos ha sido =
impuesta con sa=F1a vil, solamente la entendemos los cubanos. Y es que =
son otros los intereses; otras son las urgencias y hasta otro el =
concepto, probablemente, de solidaridad humana.
Desde luego, no es intenci=F3n de quienes luchamos por la felicidad de =
nuestro pueblo y por el restablecimiento en nuestro pa=EDs de un sistema =
de gobierno genuinamente democr=E1tico pedir que hagan nuestro trabajo, =
ni andar por el mundo mendigando una roca donde podamos sujetar el =
ancla. No. Somos agradecidos, pero aspiramos a nuestro propio arrecife, =
a roturar la tierra con nuestro propio arado. Porque entendemos que no =
merecemos ni desprecio ni humillaciones, no aceptamos contemplar en =
silencio ning=FAn tipo de atropello ni crimen. No es que seamos =
orgullosos. Es cuesti=F3n de decencia. Es cuesti=F3n de principios, =
simplemente. Cuando se le da un puntapi=E9 a otro cubano que al igual =
que nosotros intenta vivir en libertad, se ofende nuestro decoro y se =
insulta nuestra dignidad.=20
Basta ya de atropellos. El abuso de poder es repudiable en cualquier =
parte del mundo. Mucho m=E1s si se comete con ensa=F1amiento, contra =
personas indefensas. La maldad es maldad, nada puede justificarla. No =
importa el maquillaje, no interesa el disfraz con que se le cubra el =
rostro. Seguir=E1 siendo fea en todos los espejos. Y porque anhelamos =
que se ponga fin a ese clima de intolerancia cuando se habla =
insistentemente de una "pol=EDtica de compasi=F3n", exhortamos al =
gobierno del Presidente George W. Bush y a sus organismos =
correspondientes a que revisen y hagan las rectificaciones necesarias en =
los acuerdos migratorios de 1994.=20
Porque s=F3lo sirve de utilidad a los intereses mezquinos de Castro y es =
ingrediente b=E1sico para sustentar su pol=EDtica anti norteamericana, =
es necesario que se evite por todos los medios el penoso espect=E1culo =
de cacer=EDa humana contra personas indefensas, cuyo =FAnico delito ha =
sido, a riesgo de sus vidas, disfrutar de la seguridad, la esperanza y =
la paz que ofrecen los Estados Unidos de Am=E9rica, esta hermosa =
naci=F3n a la que por mucho tiempo hemos considerado cuna de la =
democracia, el progreso y la libertad.
