It took over 5 years but I agree with Junior |
It took 5 years of his reign but I finally agree with Junior on the
immigration issue.
High pressure ALWAYS flows to LOW pressure. Working for a week or a month
for the same amount of money they can make in a day in the U.S. is high
pressure. Loss of civil liberties is high pressure.
Demand for illegal labor and fair labor rates is extremely LOW pressure.
If soldiers are placed shoulder to shoulder across the boarder they will
find some other "hole" in which to enter the country.
Make them felons if caught and they will fight hard to not be caught.
The ONLY answer is a foreign policy which will result in the pressure being
eased. They prefer to stay in their own country with other things being
equal or near equal.

If its really inevitable that Mexicans are going to come here because of an
economic imbalance, then I think we should just annex the whole place. They
have some really nice beach resorts.

Agreed. We stole half of their land long ago, so we might as well steal
the rest of it.

Hmm. Okay, so tell me this: Estimated 11 million illegals in the US today.
Approximately 2 million people are in our jails and prisons. Our jails and
prisons are overcrowded, too small, and running out of money.
So -- say we arrest, oh, maybe 4 million of the 11 million illegals. Please
explain where the money comes from for the police force, prisons, courts,
etc., etc., etc., to process them. If they are incarcerated in the US --
which they will be for a time until they are departed, are you volunteering
to build a prison on your block? Or maybe you'll agree to house a few in
your spare bedroom while their case is being decided.
And if you say, well, let's just pick 'em up, check for ID, and haul them
back to the border if they are illegal, then -- where's the money for the
cops, vans, communications, maintenance of equipment, and on and on and on.
You would know this is a Republican scheme -- sounds great until you get to
the money side then they figure, well, *****, just borrow from the next
generation.
The ONLY answer is a foreign policy which will result in the pressure

Yes, if we ship all of our jobs to other countries and bankrupt the country
then the pressure will no longer be "low" in this country and the illegals
will need to find some other country to invade. Heck of a job Bushie!

Outsourcing is inevitable. The alternative is to pay more for less in this
country and nobody wants that. Unfortunately, it will take time before
workers in other countries demand better pay, benefits and working
conditions.

Annex Mexico and create a building boom, more territory for the U.S.
and an equalizing of labor costs allowing the American worker to not
lose ground. That would bring Mexico up rather than bringing America
down . However the goal seems to bring the American people down.

You'd be talking about reforming the Mexican system so it has safety
nets, minimum wages, welfare, health care, a retirement system, etc as
the real answer to the illegal immigration issue, not a foreign policy
on our part. Until Mexico decides to create a middle-class for its
poor & progresses from a '98% poor/2% wealthy' class system to a ~
'33% poor/33% middle class/33% wealthy' system, their poor are going
to keep flooding our borders to support themselves.
But you'll get little incentive on the part of the Republican Party to
help Mexico evolve its society so it becomes a modern 'progressive'
nation. That class breakdown Mexico has right now, that '2%
wealthy/98% poor' breakdown is exactly the goal they are striving to
create for this country. The Repubs aren't about to make suggestions
to Mexico that they tamper with what they see as the 'perfect' system
for us here. They can talk about foreign policy being the answer till
the cows come home, station guards along the border, build fences
along the border, etc, it is all really a sham because deep down in
their greedy little hearts the Repubs love that cheap, cheap labor &
want to keep 'em coming. They look at Mexico for exactly what it is
to them right now: an inexhaustible source of cheap renewable labor.
Why mess with that when you are trying to get the same thing as Mexico
has here in the U.S.? You don't mess with a good thing. Expect some
goofy 'guest worker' program, no amnesty, a big show of beefing up
border patrols & 'security' along the border, etc, etc. The reality
is, after all the smoke & mirrors of this year's Republican campaign
rhetoric clears up, by this time next year it will be status quo for
the illegals flooding in to the country.
As long as you guys keep electing Republicans the U.S will continue to
be flooded with cheap Mexican labor trying to keep itself alive to
feed its children. Until laws are enacted here that go after employers
who hire illegals with huge penalties & even the ability to put such
employers out of business, they will come. You will never get such
legislation from Republicans, they are too beholden to the businesses
hiring the illegals in the first place. It is going to take a major
party shift in our government away from the Republican Party before
such laws are enacted. But you guys seem to like electing Republicans,
so get used to the flood of illegals coming in each day ;-)

NAFTA is an attempt to equalize the pressure. By having free trade between
countries it is hoped the underdeveloped nations will create jobs and a
better status of living.
