John Kerry restores his lead heading into the last month |
From Zogby, 10/8/04:
http://zogby.com/news/ReadNews.dbm?ID=879
Fresh off one of the highest points of his campaign -- a superior
performance in the first head-to-head debate against President Bush --
Democratic challenger John Kerry not only stopped the slow leak of
support for his campaign, but added back some air to the inner tube
keeping afloat his run for the White House.
As a result, he remains on top in a still-tight race that shows every
indication it may be every bit as close as 2000, with support for Mr.
Bush and Mr. Kerry teetering within a very slim margin.
Mr. Kerry now leads in the race for Electoral College votes and can
now see a path to victory, but it’s still far from his grasp.
Needing 270 votes to become the next President, he has coddled
together a lead in states that total 278, compared to just 207 for Mr.
Bush, the latest collection of polls by Zogby Interactive shows.

Hopeless, I thought you'd be smarter than to post a poll take *before* the
2nd debate.

Hopeless, I thought you'd be smarter than to post a poll take *before* the
2nd debate.
Well, considering that the gerneal consensus is th\at Kerry won the second
debate - evven among many conservative pundits - Kerry's numbers will only
go up.
Mort Kondracke: ". I think Kerry won this debate as he won the first debate
I don't think. I thought that Kerry was much more aggressive and the
president was basically on the defense and didn't have new arguments didn't
have.wasn't as facile as he should have been." [Fox News Channel, 10/8/04]
Bill Kristol: "I guess I think if you think the President was doing okay and
didn't need a win in this debate, he did fine, but I think, if one thinks
that Bush missed an awful lot of opportunities to go after Kerry in the
first debate he had to make some of them up in this debate, I'm not sure he
really succeeded in doing so." [Fox New Channel, 10/8/04]
Brit Hume: "Is it now fair to say that in each of these debates in terms of
marshaling arguments, and remembering them and presenting them that this is
something John Kerry has proved he is very good at. And that it doesn't play
to the president's strong suit." [Fox News Channel, 10/8/04]
Mort Kondracke: "I thought [Kerry] was very effective. I thought that he was
also on the attack a lot and frankly I thought that the President seemed to
be on the defense a lot and trying to explain things and not explaining them
all that well." [Fox News Channel, 10/8/04]
Tim Russert: "John Kerry, also, energetic, forceful." [NBC, 10/8/04]
"On the question of whether Bush did everything he needed to tonight, I
don't think so. I think he helped himself, but Kerry leaves these debates
energized." [Jonah Goldberg, National Review Online, 10/8/04]

They need to go WAY up, because Kerry was WAY down even AFTER the first
debate, which some think Kerry won. Besides, most think Kerry lost the
second debate, and feel that President Bush basically cleaned his clock.
ST. LOUIS, Missouri (CNN) -- If the election were held today, Bush likely
would win 301 electoral votes to Kerry's 237, according to a new CNN survey
based on state polling as well as interviews with campaign aides and
independent analysts. A candidate wins
the election with at least 270 electoral votes, regardless of the popular
vote.

No thinking about it - from the gut - a mighty hoorah. Bush kicked ***** when
he stood and pointed at Kerry and looked at the audience and told them
Senator Kerry could run, but he couldn't hide from his 20 year record of
liberal votes in the Senate.

it just goes to show that the left cannot win in a open debate forum. the
first debate with its obviously biased questions (and statements by the
host) was completely rigged with kerry being more than prepared on every
question.
last nights debate revealed kerry to be inept and unable to misdirect the
audience from his liberal slant. you see it takes alot to rehearse
statements designed to dodge tough issues and last night proves kerry cannot
think on his feet and cannot perform under pressure.
bush won and the mainstream media won't print it. they will say it was a
draw which we all know mean kerry got his ***** kicked. we also know that when
the left slanted media says kerry won, or edwards won but it was close, then
it was probably a draw.
ask a lib if the media is biased and watch the blank stare take over his
face. it is really funny.

I agree. Kerry was used as a floor mop by President Bush last night. Kerry
is probably still dazed and seeing stars after the beating Bush gave him.
Kerry was also rocked back on his heels when an attractive young woman in
the audience NAILED HIM with her abortion question. Bush has the young
women of America on his side. Kerry only has the dried-up prunebitches of
the NOW gang siding with him, which isn't enough to allow Kerry to win.

I seem to remember the numbers being even after the first debate, Kerry
having "closed the gap" so to speak. But you're right, both sides need
gain at least 10-15% before they can begin to feel safe.

taken *after* the debate.
