Kerry flipflop on funding our soldiers in Iraq |
Kerry Said He would Vote For $87 Billion Because He Wouldn't "Abandon Our
Troops."
KERRY: "I don't think any United States senator is going to abandon our
troops and recklessly leave Iraq to - to whatever follows as a result of
simply cutting and running. That's irresponsible. What is responsible is for
the administration to do this properly now."
(CBS' "Face The Nation," 9/14/03)
Kerry Said He Wouldn't "Cut And Run" And Withhold Ammunition.
KERRY: "I don't think anyone in the Congress is going to not give our troops
ammunition, not give our troops the ability to be able to defend themselves.
We're not going to cut and run and not do the job."
(CBS' "Face The Nation," 9/14/03)
But Then, Kerry Voted Against Senate Passage Of Iraq/Afghanistan
Reconstruction Package.
"Passage of the bill that would appropriate $86.5 billion in fiscal 2004
supplemental spending for military operations and reconstruction in Iraq and
Afghanistan. The bill would provide $10.3 billion as a grant to rebuild
Iraq, including $5.1 billion for security and $5.2 billion for
reconstruction costs. It also would provide $10 billion as a loan that would
be converted to a grant if 90 percent of all bilateral debt incurred by the
former Iraqi regime of Saddam Hussein has been forgiven by other countries.
Separate provisions limit reconstruction aid to $18.4 billion. It also would
provide approximately $65.6 billion for military operations and maintenance
and $1.3 billion for veterans medical care."
(S. 1689, CQ Vote #400: Passed 87-12: R 50-0; D 37-11; I 0-1, 10/17/03,
Kerry Voted Nay)

Only 54% of Americans vote. That vote is
split pretty evenly. That means only 25%
favor a particular issue. So there is a very

"President Bush said in his speech Monday night that the war in Iraq is "the
central front in the war on terror." It's not the central front in the war
on terror, but it has unfortunately become the central recruiting office for
terrorists. [***** Cheney said, "This war may last the rest of our lives.]
The unpleasant truth is that President Bush's utter incompetence has made
the world a far more dangerous place and dramatically increased the threat

LOL!
We should also note, of course, that not one person can attest to the fact
that Gore was taken up into "The Mother Ship", painfully interrogated at
length by the Martians, then released back to Earth in time for his debates
with George Bush. Which Gore then lost, due to the aftereffects of his
visit to The Mother Ship.
Like President Bush's supposed "AWOL episode", apparently nobody can attest
to Gore's supposed "Martian Interview episode".
Which of course doesn't stop the insane Democrats from ranting and raving

true, but that pales to the flip-flopper in chief...
1. OPEC
BUSH PROMISES TO FORCE OPEC TO LOWER PRICES..."What I think the president
ought to do [when gas prices spike] is he ought to get on the phone with the
OPEC cartel and say we expect you to open your spigots...And the president
of the United States must jawbone OPEC members to lower the price."

States at the beginning of 2004, the Miami Herald reported the president
refused to "personally lobby oil cartel leaders to change their minds."
[Miami Herald, 4/1/04]
2. Iraq Funding
BUSH SPOKESMAN DENIES NEED FOR ADDITIONAL FUNDS FOR THE REST OF 2004..."We
do not anticipate requesting supplemental funding for '04" [White House
Budget Director Joshua Bolton, 2/2/04]
BUSH REQUESTS ADDITIONAL FUNDS FOR IRAQ FOR 2004 ³I am requesting that
Congress establish a $25 billion contingency reserve fund for the coming
fiscal year to meet all commitments to our troops. [President Bush,
Statement by President, 5/5/04]
3. Condoleeza Rice Testimony
BUSH SPOKESMAN SAYS RICE WON'T TESTIFY AS 'A MATTER OF PRINCIPLE'...³Again,
this is not her personal preference; this goes back to a matter of
principle. There is a separation of powers issue involved here.
Historically, White House staffers do not testify before legislative bodies.
So it's a matter of principle, not a matter of preference. [White House
Press Secretary Scott McClellan, 3/9/04]
BUSH ORDERS RICE TO TESTIFY: ³Today I have informed the Commission on
Terrorist Attacks Against the United States that my National Security

Bush, 3/30/04]
4. Science

feel good or what sounds good." [then-Governor George W. Bush, 1/15/00]

federal agency directors and university chairs and presidentsissued a
statement calling for regulatory and legislative action to restore
scientific integrity to federal policymaking. According to the scientists,

true, but that pales to the flip-flopper in chief...
1. OPEC

Right. Which did ont deprive any one of a bullet or a dollar.
not a flip flop
Your argument is that Trent Lott voting against the big Clinton Plan
vote in 1993 setting the budget outlines
voted no and therefore
voted against food for soldiers
Kerry by voting no on one version, not another, did not deprive anyone
of onything,
Same with Lott

There are a lot of potential reasons to vote against something. Kerry did
not want to deprive any troops of what they needed. He did want better
accountability of the funds than the package provided. This vote has been
wildly and pathetically distorted by Republicans.

That vote by Kerry was politically
motivated.
Can you explain this?:
March 19 - In an interview several weeks before he voted against $87
billion in funding for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, the
presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., seemed to
argue that such a vote would be reckless, irresponsible, and tantamount to
abandoning U.S. troops.
On the Sept. 14, 2003, edition of CBS's Face the Nation, Kerry spoke at
length about an amendment he and Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., were offering which
would have paid for the $87 billion by delaying some of the recent tax cuts.
Asked if he would vote against the $87 billion if his amendment did not
pass, Kerry said, "I don't think any United States senator is going to abandon
our troops and recklessly leave Iraq to whatever follows as a result of simply
cutting and running. That's irresponsible."

That is a lot of horseshit. Does the
Senate allow you to change a vote
after the final tally? Did Kerry ever
say he would have done that?
He chose to make a statement that the Republicans

He certainly made a statement. That
he was concerned about the poll numbers
where Dean was cleaning his clock
prior to the primaries mainly because
of the war in Iraq.
