Klan member ordered reinstated in police
OMAHA, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- An arbitrator ordered the Nebraska State
Patrol to reinstate a trooper who was fired after his membership in
the Ku Klux Klan was revealed.
The decision to reinstate Robert Henderson, who was fired after
admitting to membership in the KKK and posting on a message board for
white supremacist group the White Knights, has sparked controversy
among those who disagree with the arbitrator's ruling that the State
Patrol failed to demonstrate that Henderson poses a threat to the
public or the police, ABC News reported Friday.
Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning has filed a motion to overturn
the decision.
"We don't want this person on the staff (of the Nebraska State
Patrol)," he said. "We don't want the agency destroyed by a racist
like Bob Henderson."
Unless the appeal is granted, the state of Nebraska must reinstate
Henderson, who has since resigned his membership in the groups and
admitted that joining was a mistake, within 60 days.

The funniest part was the reason he joined in the first place was
because his wife ran off with a black guy.

Certainly you do, but that right doesn't apply to employment. An
employer has the right to fire an employee even based on political
affiliation. The only reason the bigot got to keep his job was because
of his union's arbitration action which will almost certainly be turned
over on appeal given the abundance of case law on similar cases.

Yes it was because in that case you had the government infringing on
people's free speech rights vs an employer acting in the interest of its
business. The former was protected activity based on the 1st
ammendment.
Besides McCarthy didn't go after commies and pinkos. He went after his
political enemies.

Earlier this year there was a big thing about a college
prof who was fired after uttering some seriously anti-
Bush/anti-American statements during his classes. Seemed
that the USA *deserved* 9-11 ... and the CIA and Jews were
behind it all anyway.
'Liberals' screamed and moaned about the prof getting the
boot. It was so UNFAIR, 'censorship', 'political correctness'
towards non-liberal ends. Terrible ! Fascist !!!
OK - if THAT was unfair then THIS was likewise unfair.
What does freedom of political belief MEAN if it's OK
to discriminate against and abuse people with the "wrong"
politics ? "Freedom" becomes just a WORD then ... with
no tangible meaning. Whether it's persecution by the
government or persecution by corporations - it's still
persecution for ones political beliefs.
Besides McCarthy didn't go after commies and pinkos. He went after his
political enemies.
By calling them pinkos ...
Used to be you'd call 'em "witches" ...

Well, it may be above your IQ to notice but your fellow kkkonservatives
hate people for what they are, whereas McCarthy hated for what others
thought.
But while I can accept the reinstatement as appropriate in the
abstract, klan practices include terroristic actions. I suppose this
guy, as a believer in klan ideas, will, sooner or later, act on those
ideas and beliefs. That would not only be cause for dismissal but a
felony as well.

Sorry, but old Joe figured that once you'd been tainted
by one drop of communism you were a commie subversive
for life. Hey, if your parents were pinkos then YOU were
surely a pinko too ! Not much different from that "one
drop of 'colored' blood" idea ...
But while I can accept the reinstatement as appropriate in the
abstract, klan practices include terroristic actions.
The Klan is on the border of being 'abstract' in the
tangible sense nowdays ... their membership is down
to almost zero - a tiger with no teeth. They don't
DO anything anymore beyond dress up in funny clothes
and march around burning 'T'-shaped wooden monoliths
like idiots.
In short, the Klan has become IRRELEVANT ... except as
a strawman for the 'liberals' to attack.
I suppose this
guy, as a believer in klan ideas, will, sooner or later, act on those
ideas and beliefs. That would not only be cause for dismissal but a
felony as well.
Remember detective Mark Furhman from the OJ days ? Serious
racist - but NOT a KKK member. There seem to be many like
him in police ranks.
Officer Henderson more or less ADMITS to being a racist by
his KKK membership ... but most other racist police are in
"stealth mode" or are known racists but not "official"
racists because they don't join KKK or Aryan Nations.
Are you saying that it's OK to be a 'un-official' racist
in the police department wheras "official" racists ought
to be fired ? All you're doing there is to push the racism
a bit further underground, out of public sight but hardly
without practical consequences to the public.
And what OTHER kinds of political philosophies make someone
an unacceptable candidate for the police academy ? Is it
OK to dislike moslems ? Hey, they're not BORN that way - so
it's not 'racism'. If a cop joins an anti-Osama group, or
the US army reserve, should he be fired ? What about cops
who dislike Mexicans - or think all 'blacks' should get off
the hook because the laws were writ by racist slavemasters ?
Can they serve the public ? Not ? Maybe ???
As for Henderson, it's CONVENIENT that he's in the Klan.
That means his work can be evaluated with an eye towards
racial bias. The 'stealth' racists ... you've gotta assume
otherwise, that they're not racists ... and that means
you could miss a lot of abuses.
Face it, if you got a committee together and made a list
of every political, psychological or religious particular
or quirk that should disqualify someone from being police
we'd have no policemen at all. America is 'diverse' - and
that means you'll always have cops who don't think just
like some committee believes they should.
For every Henderson there's gonna be another cop who's an
ultra-lib. They'll keep an eye on each other ... a balance
of diversity ....

I agree. If they can't act professionally then they
need to be fired.
(like Bush claiming recognizing gay marriage would destroy the
institution of marriage and end Western Civilization).
Bad analogy. That's his opinion (well, Pat Robertsons anyway)
which requires considerable discussion about the nature,

the sure and unsure effects of including homosexuals and so
on and so forth.
