Check this out. You wander into a bank in Canada. You exchange some
U.S. dollars for Canadian dollars at the exchange rate. You cash some
travellers cheques. You can even open a bank account. Then you try to
buy mutual funds. No can do. They're forbidden to sell mutual fund
shares to US residents, under U.S. federal law. For some strange
reason, they obey U.S. laws in other countries.
