Hmm. Liberals hate the military? The military hates liberals? I wish
someone had told me that before I, an old liberal, spent 28 years in uniform
including a tour in Vietnam. And my equally liberal son spent seven years
in the Army Special Forces. Damn, wish we had been told how hated we were
before we gave it 35 years.

I hate to break it to you but you have to look at the source of those
statistics:
As far as the author goes (Robert Hodierne), I have to wonder if those
numbers have been skewed. You don't think he'd be reporting that there is
dissension in the ranks do you?
His current status:
"I am the number two manager in a 100-person newsroom that produces the
weekly newspapers Army Times, Navy Times, Marine Corps Times, Air Force
Times, Defense News and Federal Times plus the monthly Armed Forces Journal
and the bi-monthly Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Journal and

Liberals don't hate the military.
1. It was liberals that pointed out a year ago that Bush/Cheney were
sending our troops in without properly armored vehicles.
2. It is liberals today that point out the military has too few troops,
and that a number of around 500k (with draft) will be needed in Iraq.
3. It's liberals today, that point out that the VA is not properly
funded to take care of returning vets. Because of the extended tours,
it's been estimated that over 100,000 returning vets will have PTSD and
other problems the VA is not equipt to handle.
Lets look at the oposite; specifically, what did the NeoCon Republicans
do to the military:
1. They tried to prevent some US troops from getting combat pay.
2. They have instituted a 'back door' draft, whereby your tours keep
getting extended on and on and on. They're even calling up 56 year olds.
One consequence is that reserve enlistment is down 30% and they can't
meet quotas.
3. They skewed Intel on Iraq and brought the country into a war with an
enemy that was not threatening the US. Sadam was contained with UN
inspections and our military presence in the 'no fly' zones. There were
no WMD's.
4. After invasion, they ran to protect the oil fields, but neglected the
thousands of ammo dumps around the country - dumps that terrorists later
still use to build IED's and kill our troops. (Rummy had some vision of
a smaller military and continually 'jaw boned' officers to invade with
too few troops. Rummy even fired any generals that disagreed with him.)
5. They force our troops to use 'hillbilly armour' scrounged from
garbage dumps - literally!
6. Bush/Rummy force Guard families and others to collect food stamps and
receive other assistance because they don't pay the troops enough.
7. Under Bush/Rummey/Cheney, a greiving family only gets a 20k death
benefit from the Feds. This certainly won't replace the loved one, let
alone burry them. Certainly, we should up this, but what have the
Republicans done? Nothing!
8. Under Bush/Rummy/Cheney, untrained troops were 'reassigned' in Iraq
to police style duties.
9. Bush/Rummy/Cheney abrogated the Geneva Conventions for US troops; not
realizing that if one of ours is captured, they would receive far worse
treatement than they would have otherwise.
10. And, finally, were's Osama? Why, he's free as a bird. How did things
under Bush/Rummy/Cheney go in Afganistan? Why, they are nothing but a
bunch of drug lords with a UN seat.

So, are you sure the Military 'hates' Democrats/Liberals?
Once you actually sit down and look at the facts, you see it's
otherwise, and it's the Republicans in power today that hate the military.

Wrong Idiot, I do not hate the military. I was in the Vietnam war,
enlisted, and received an honorable discharge. I am a Liberal and I hate
the current lying Military Commander - In - Chief. He put our troops in
harms way for personal reasons. The man is a coward who got his daddy to
get him into the Guard. We of that era know what it took to get into the
Guard, PULL...he would probably would have pissed his pants if he had to go
to Nam, or cry to daddy. And it is not 71% approval, it is 60%, which means
40% have negative feelings towards him.
