Dear Friend,
I have a few quick updates for you this week on a number of
items.
• In case you missed the news, our politicians in government
have been very busy
in recent days:
- On Thursday, the Senate voted to raise the national debt
ceiling to a staggering $9 trillion ($8,965,000,000,000).
( I think I heard on the news that it was 8.1 trillion now. )
- On Wednesday, President Bush, faced with rock-bottom poll
numbers, spoke about
setting a timetable for Iraq . . . well sort of.
( I heard today that Bush's job approval rating is 39%, CONgress
is 29%. )
- Last week, the House of Representatives voted to renew the USA
Patriot Act which was quickly signed by the president.
One has to wonder, would we be better off if our government
"leaders" were simply complacent? Would less harm be done if
the president went back to Crawford and our senators and
congressman took some time off to kick back and play golf? You
be the judge.
While that is a sad question to ask, we still have to remain
hopeful and do all
that we can to make a difference. This means showing support
for LP candidates
and the party whenever possible.
If you have not already done so, contact your state's
Libertarian Party and introduce yourself. More than likely they
could use your help in a number of ways. Also, if you are in
the D.C. area, feel free to stop by LPHQ and say hello.
• The second semester of the Libertarian Leadership School
begins on March 28th.
Registration is now open so be sure to sign up for one of the
six-week long classes. For more information or to register, go

• Here's the exciting news for the week: We've confirmed two
new speakers for the LP National Convention to be held on July
1st and 2nd in Portland, Oregon.
- Former Congressman Bob Barr will be speaking Saturday morning.
Bob Barr represented the 7th District of Georgia in the U. S.
House of Representatives from 1995 to 2003. He currently serves
as the chairman of the Patriots to Restore Checks and Balances,
a group that has been a vocal opponent against the
USA Patriot Act.
- Andrew Neil will be joining us throughout the weekend for
several events. Andrew Neil is the founding chairman of Sky TV
and a current BBC correspondent. He has served as publisher of
The Scotsman, editor of The Economist and editor-in-chief of the
Sunday Times.
We are thrilled that the above gentlemen will be speakers at our
national convention and I greatly appreciate their
participation.

It's important that you register early for the convention.
First you benefit from early bird pricing (until May 1st) and
secondly you help us pay for and budget our expenses for this
very big event. Also, our convention is open to everyone. You
do not have to be a delegate to attend so if you want to see how
a true political party works, take the time and register today.
• One final item, be sure to check regularly with
www.LPStuff.com. They have been doing a great job of keeping LP
products available to our members and have
even added new products such as t-shirts (note that they are
rotating designs so
if you see one you like, grab it quickly).
