"Washington, DC (DWNA 3-13-2006) --The United States Agriculture Department
has been considering when to scale back its costlier and higher level of
testing for mad cow disease. During the tests, specially trained Animal
Psychologists randomly go to cow farms and interview cows to see if they
have any issues that may need professional help in resolving.
After the first case of BSE, testing was increased from about 55 to 1,000
daily. As of Monday, 652,697 of the nation's estimated 95 million head of
cattle had been interviewed. The vast majority of cows do not seen to have
any problems.
