Mandatory cervical cancer shots for Mich. girls?
Proposed bill would require HPV vaccines for girls entering sixth
grade
Updated: 6:07 p.m. MT Sept 12, 2006
LANSING, Mich. - Michigan girls entering the sixth grade next year
would have to be vaccinated against cervical cancer under legislation
backed Tuesday by a bipartisan group of female lawmakers.
The legislation is the first of its kind in the United States, said
Republican state Sen. Beverly Hammerstrom, lead sponsor.
The vaccine was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in June
for use in girls and women and has been hailed as a breakthrough in
cancer prevention. It prevents infections from some strains of the
sexually transmitted human papilloma virus, which can cause cervical
cancer and genital warts.

Interesting that this is being proposed by a Republican.
You see, the wacky "religious right" OPPOSES the distribution and use of the
HPV vaccine.
Why?
After all, the vaccine is known to be safe and effective in preventing
cervical cancer -- why would "religious" people oppose it? Because -- the
HPV virus is spread through sexual contact and the "religious right" argues
that if young women (in this case, pre-teen girls) are vaccinated against
HPV, they will then lose their fear of cervical cancer which, in turn, will
cause them to run right out and screw like rabbits.
I know, the logic escapes me, too, but that's the way the screwball
"religious right" thinks.
Just wait -- all the "religious right" holyrollers will pile onto this
Republican and make her wish she had never said anything on the subject.

I don't know about those, but what about the antibiotic
resistant strains of staph? Ever consider those? I think too often
biologists and people in related fields come up with something that
helps a few people for a while, but now you can read Scientific
American and it's articles about predicted "plagues" due to antibiotic
resistant this and that. Of course, since "scientists" are your
"gods", you probably would disagree.

URANIDIOT. I'm not criticising women . It's the corrupt politicians
that are the problem. You can buy them with a steak dinner.

I can only see a vaccine being mandatory for a highly contagious
disease. Is it?
That was my first thought too. It may be ok to vaccinate kids for say
TB, but why this? Could be this is just a case of the company that
makes the vaccine buying off the congressmen to write this awful law.

Not in any sense that any other disease for which kids are required
to be vaccinated are "contagious!" All other diseases - like measles -
that vaccination is required for are diseases one kid could easily get
from another kid merely by being in the same room with him or playing
outdoors with him at recess. You can't get cervical cancer merely by
being in the same room as someone infected with the virus.
It is time to tell the truth. 12-year-olds need to be told over and
over that sex is unsafe for them due to all kinds of incurable severe
diseases no vaccine protects against (like AIDS, herpes) - rather than
told that crashing the car is fine as long as they wear their
seatbelts! Dammit, in driver ed we don't tell kids to go ahead and
wreck the car as long as they wear seatbelts.
And I raise the issue again. How many of those "female lawmakers"
pushing this bill in Michigan want THEIR daughter having sex at age 12?

It's like a law here in North Carolina allowing doctors to put
underage girls on prescription contraceptives without notifying
parents. As one old man in my county put it at an angry county
commissioners' meeting at which this law was a prominent issue, it's
about creating "the myth of safe teenage sex."
Cervical cancer vaccine can't make sex safe for preteenagers in
Michigan - which is the age sixth graders would be. It couldn't keep
them from getting incurable sexually-transmitted AIDS or herpes. It
couldn't prevent pregnancy. Does any woman legislator really want to
imply to HER own preteen daughter that sex is safe for preteen girls?

This news is not only about papillomavirus, because papillomavirus
etiology has implications outside the categroy 'papillomavirus.' A
search at Pubmed will show that this is so. Nazi War On Cancer,
Princeton University Press, 1999 should help to reveal more about
paranoia, the monstrous and the poetic, Islamic refusals to vaccination
in Africa, etc. In additon, the layperson (too busy to take the time to
go into depth on a topic) generally hasn't a clue what the geography
'Michigan' has to do with it epidemiologically. When in doubt, just
keep thinking that glossing over a topic will suffice. The
low-pathogenic strain of H5N1 avian influenza recently found in this
region also has nothing to do with papillomavirus, correct? Like
lemmings following one another over a cliff (whether or not they
actually do that), a constant barrage of information to scroll on these
lists equates to Goethe's 'puff of pollen,' the victims of the 'recent
posts syndrome' never quite are able to choose each flower with which
to form a boquet. The glossing over is assured, somewhat akin to
reading the bible, a dangerously self-glossing piece of literature.
Nuts.
