BLUFFTON, S.C. (AP) --
Arizona Sen. John McCain said Monday the war in Iraq has been
mismanaged for years and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld will be
remembered as "one of the worst" to ever hold the job.
"We are paying a very heavy price for the mismanagement - that's the
kindest word I can give you - of Donald Rumsfeld of this war," McCain
told an overflow crowd of more than 800 at a retirement community near
Hilton Head Island.
"The price is very, very heavy and I regret it enormously."
The Arizona Republican said Rumsfeld never put enough troops on the
ground to succeed in Iraq.
"I think that that Donald Rumsfeld will go down in history as one of
the worst secretaries of defense in history," McCain said to applause.
The comment was in sharp contrast to McCain's statement when Rumsfeld
resigned in November.
"While Secretary Rumsfeld and I have had our differences, he deserves
Americans' respect and gratitude for his many years of public
service," McCain said at the time.

McCain has been bashing the Bush administration ever since he lost his bid
for the Republican presidential nominatoin in 2000. You can't believe
anything McCain has to say and now he is considering a run for the
Republican Presidential nomination again. And don't forget the rumors of
John McCain being a potential running mate for John Kerry back in 2004. I
don't know any republican's who believe anything McCain has to say and am
surprised anyone else would believe him either.

I think it's rather generous to refer to McCain's change of mind as
error-correction. After all he seems to have corrected a LOT of errors in his
viewpoints recently, and seems to base his correction on what his current
