Object: Muslims And Salt
I have just read of a very interesting Islamic law regarding salt: If a
Muslims eats another person's salt, he/she cannot betray that person!
The example given was of a thief who broke into a rich man's safe, took
all the gold, then found and opened a small pill box that contained a
white powder. The thief tasted the powder and found it to be salt.
According to that law, he was bound to put all the loot back, and did
so! The law is known as Namak (Salt) Haram (Sin). It seems that the
law holds even is one is tricked into eating the salt!
I therefore propose that CIA agents interrogating Muslim detainees bring
their own personal salt from their homes (along with receipts proving
that they or their wives bought said salt at the grocery store) and feed
it to the detainees! Namak Haram would then force the detainees to
answer the CIA agents' questions truthfully, for to lie to the CIA
agents would count as betraying them!
I also propose that the U.S. government buy salt and feed it to Muslims
who work for the government, and Muslims all over the world, thus
bounding those Muslims to not betray the U.S.!

Interesting proposal, however with the widespread corruption conducted by
outfits such as Halliburton and other war profiteers in Iraq, "betraying"
the interrogators might actually fuel more insurrection. The George WMD
Bush Administration's conduct of the war is most certainly *not* in the best
interest of the United States.
Then again, don't expect fundamentalists -- of *any* religion -- to actually
*follow* all the laws of their prophets and scriptures. No "fundamentalist"
Christian, for example, reacted to the attacks of 9/11 by encouraging the
faithful to "turn the other cheek" or "love your enemies." Quite the
contrary.
(Actually, since Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell blamed Lesbians and
feminists for 9/11 *instead* of Islamist fundamentalists, maybe they *were*
expressing their love for religious-based terrorism.)
The anti-gay-marriage crowd picks and chooses verses from Leviticus to
support their cause, but don't declare jihad against other "abominations"
listed in the book. Where's the outrage against people who eat ham
sandwiches and shrimp cocktail? They're equal sins, according to scripture.
Jesus told his followers to sell everything they had and give it to the
poor. You don't hear many so-called "Christians" advocating that these
days.

Hence my proposal to feed Muslims U.S. salt, so that they would be obligated by
Islamic law to not act against U.S. government interests (i.e. betray the U.S.).

I'm going to assume you're be satrical, cause that's about as dumb as

won't hijack them."

Some mullah somewhere would make a statement that it doesn't apply to
infidels and it would be on again.

Okay, have a Muslim CIA agent or a Muslim agent from a Muslim country feed the
detainees the salt!

Yes, its the same law that prevents you from doing harm to anyone that
allows you to stay under their roof. A fairly common law from olden
days.

Er, no, it doesn't. You cannot bear violence against them, nor betray
them
to your own side. It has nothing to do with giving away information.
More
importantly, by sharing your salt with them, you fall under the same
rules and
have to protect them. Are you sure you want to do this again?

Um... I suggest you learn something before you spout off.

But if you are obligated by Islamic law to not betray the U.S., and you know
of a plot to harm the U.S., wouldn't withholding information about that plot
be betraying the U.S.? Wouldn't failing to warn a friend of a plot to harm
him count as betrayal?

IMHO, it would be a good idea for us to protect the detainees from harm!
