Syria Says US Behind Attack On Own Embassy

Ryan R. Jones - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent
Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - Senior Syrian government official have
accused the US of being behind Tuesday's assault on its own embassy in
downtown Damascus.
A Baath party official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told
WorldNetDaily, "We in the government are 100 percent sure America was
behind this attack, which is not the same as other attacks by Islamic
groups."
He explained, "Only the Americans can succeed in carrying out an
attack just 200 meters from President [Bashar] Assad's residence in
the most heavily guarded section of Syria."
The official charged that Washington had orchestrated the attack to
"prove Syria is filled with terrorists and to put us in a weak
position" in order to extract political concessions. Following the
attack, Bush administration officials said they hoped the incident had
convinced Damascus of the dangers of Islamic terror and the need to
cooperate with the West against the phenomenon.
The US and several of its European allies have repeatedly demanded
over the years that Damascus close down the local offices and training
camps of several organizations hostile to Israel and the West.
The identities of those who attacked the US embassy Tuesday have not
been revealed. Three of the gunmen were killed by Syrian guards during
the assault. A fourth was reportedly captured.

I suspect Syria is right on the money.
You and Saroman have your tin foil beanies on too tight. Syria hasn't a
shred of evidence. The fact that an operation is well planned, well
executed and a complete surprise is not "evidence" that it was a US
operation. It's evidence that Syria isn't prepared to deal with terrorists
in their own capital and that our embassy is more vulnerable than we
thought. The US Embassy staff in Damascus is probably now looking longingly
at Baghdad's "Green Zone" as a model for how to live in a foreign land.
The problem with operations like this is that they'd unravel. People can't
keep their mouths shut. If we blew up the Maine, it would have come to
light, somebody wouldn't have been able to keep that secret down. Murderers
do often confess, just not the sociopathological ones. Even Deep Throat
finally had to talk.

With forgeries, which are similar, you can get proof of the forging.
So those get reported. But they don't get much prominence.
That Chalabi used forgeries has been reported - on page 19.
That the UK used forgeries for years to frame Saddam as having WMD has
been reported - again on a couple back pages.
Con Coughlin, of the Telegraph, found under unusual circumstances
documents in Iraq indicating that George Galloway was getting paid by
Iraq. He was a notorious recipient of many such "perfect" documents
maligning poltical opponents of conservatives. Amazing luck at finding
such documents when other reporters were swarming to find such stuff
but were unable to. Con had a touch - he found way more than his share
of such liberal-bashing documents.
But did we see much coverage when he was fired for GETTING CAUGHT
receiving improper inducements from the government?
No.
The press really does suck.
At least in some ways.
Partly it's beacuse the reporters are now paid so much, and because
they are selected from elite educational establishments, that they
identify with the Establishment.
In the old days reporters made average pay, went to real bars, and had
real drinks.
And weren't shy about blasting truth to power.

This would not surprise me if this were true. It would also explain why

Syria Says US Behind Attack On Own Embassy

Ryan R. Jones - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent
Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - Senior Syrian government official have
accused the US of being behind Tuesday's assault on its own embassy in
downtown Damascus.
A Baath party official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told
WorldNetDaily, "We in the government are 100 percent sure America was
behind this attack, which is not the same as other attacks by Islamic
groups."
He explained, "Only the Americans can succeed in carrying out an
attack just 200 meters from President [Bashar] Assad's residence in
the most heavily guarded section of Syria."
The problem with this statement is that the attack did not succeed.
They were beaten by Syrian troops.
The official charged that Washington had orchestrated the attack to
"prove Syria is filled with terrorists and to put us in a weak
position" in order to extract political concessions. Following the
attack, Bush administration officials said they hoped the incident had
convinced Damascus of the dangers of Islamic terror and the need to
cooperate with the West against the phenomenon.
The US and several of its European allies have repeatedly demanded
over the years that Damascus close down the local offices and training
camps of several organizations hostile to Israel and the West.
The identities of those who attacked the US embassy Tuesday have not
been revealed. Three of the gunmen were killed by Syrian guards during
the assault. A fourth was reportedly captured.
So I guess they will torture him and convince him to confess that he is
a CIA agent?
