Object: My Valentine's Day TV Spot
I did a little public service announcement that went out tonight on
the NewVI TV station across Canada on Satellite. It will be played
again Saturday night and Monday morning. Here is the script:
Forget flowers and diamonds. Dark chocolate is the fastest way to a
fair maid's heart, and now-a-days it had better be fair trade
chocolate.
Why you ask?
Over the last 40 years, the big international cocoa companies have
whittled down the amount they pay to the cocoa farmer to 2 cents per
chocolate bar.
For growing the cocoa trees, individually picking the almond-size
beans, fending off snakes, and fermenting the chocolate, a Ghana
grower makes about 50 cents a day.
That is marginally above slave labour.
Women naturally identify, yet they still want their chocolate. When
you buy fair trade chocolate, it is it like giving the grower a 15%
tip.
In return, you get ultra-rich, organic, top-quality chocolate. There
are many brands of fair trade chocolate available. So this Valentine's
day, give it a whirl. It is addictively delicious, and you look come
across as sensitive and caring guy.

The amazing bit is that you think *anyone* would care about this.
And where's Mr. Hat? What did you do to him, Mr. Garrison? Mr. Hat would
have had Bush & Co. gang-buggering the cocoa farmer every day and then
taking away his 50 cents to give to Halliburton. You really need to work out
this keyboard control issue with Mr. Hat. He's a bit wild but without him
you're insipid.

Obviously you do.
Canadians care a lot about Fair Trade labelled products.
It's a big issue where I live. We will pay $2.00 more
for a bag of coffee if it's labelled Fair Trade.

Actually "Fair Trade" labeled products was not what I was talking about.
What I was talking about was Roedy doing a TV commercial.
What makes your own post interesting is that we have one Canadian posting
about his TV commercial, airing in Canada, on a bunch of American political
forums... an American posting a complaint about him doing that, and then
another Canadian complaining about that complaint. I suppose it's *possible*
to get further removed from the original purpose of the forum, but it would
take some imagination.

It is not a commercial any more than a blurb suggesting the benefits
of vegan food would be. "Fair trade" is not a brand name, but a claim
the maker is not ripping of the grower as badly as usual.
It is relevant in that Bush had made the USA the stingiest western
country in terms of foreign aid. Further, the USA has been sponging
off countries like Ghana without a lick of conscience. I bring up a
way to fight back even before Bush is remove from office.

Your original post, entitled "My Valentine's Day TV Spot," isn't about
anything other than Roedy Green on the TV, and you know it. It's a rather
pathetic attempt at self-aggrandizement and that is all. Your constant
squeaking in these pages representing the indignant Canadian hoser community
is irrelevant enough, but now you're trotting out the scripts for
commercials that don't even air on American television, just because you're
in the damn thing. You get called on that, and like the disingenuous lefty
you are, you try to turn it into spotlighting how warm your heart is because
you're helping a poor cocoa farmer make a *third of a cent* when you eat a
candy bar.
Even were I to give you that as your motivation for the post, which I
definitely don't, it doesn't quite usher you into the ranks of the great
philanthropists, does it? And unlike most of them, you've made certain your
donation to the cause isn't exactly anonymous, haven't you?
Whoopee for you. We're all impressed I'm sure. Now get Mr. Garrison away
from the keyboard and put Mr. Hat back on. Mr. Garrison's boring. Let Mr.
Hat talk some more about how you're sure Bush shoved a femur up his ***** in
Skull and Bones initiation or something.

The funniest part is those morons willingly pay a lot more for "fair trade"
products, but the middle-men just make more off the deal than before,
because they control every step of the process, regardless.

I don't know much about it so I can't say. I *would not* be surprised,
though. If Mr. Garrison's chocolate bar is any more than a third of a cent
higher than any other chocolate bar, it must be going someplace, and it
obviously isn't the cocoa farmers. For most lefties it isn't about the cocoa
farmer, anyway... it's about being seen buying the stuff at the checkout
counter, or using it in the office breakroom.

Wrong. I'm amazed you think anyone would care that you did a TV commercial.
It's the only reason you posted that, and you know it.
As for the other issue, by your own script, everytime you buy one of the
candy bars you're hawking in it, you're donating almost a whopping one-third
of a penny to a poor cocoa farmer. That makes you feel all warm and fuzzy,
does it? *Wow*.

It is a pathetic start I agree, but to the grower, 15% can make the
difference between life and death. It also has other meanings I did
not get into -- like no child labour and no whipping.

Mrs. Heinz-Kerry and her husband are very wealthy thanks to slave
labor at Heinz in picking tomatoes to make catsup.
Bush family was in the oil business - an industry where employees are
paid very well.
