In civic politics where you have to pick a slate of aldermen from a
large cast of hopefuls, name recognition is more important than
anything else. A scandal can even help a candidate.
At this stage, name recognition is also important in presidential
politics, though it should diminish as the election approaches.
The effect should help the Democratic candidate as time progresses.
That is why Bush has good reason to worry even though he still leads
Dean.
