Political director Mark Mead accuses Bush of using the issue as a
"political football" at the same time hundreds of gay Republicans are
working in the Bush administration and working for his re-election.

Gay Republican group unhappy with call for amendment
(Washington-AP) --
The nation's largest gay Republican organization says it's "outraged"
that President Bush is calling for a Constitutional amendment to ban
gay marriage.
The Washington-based Log Cabin Republicans group calls it an
"anti-family" move that it will fight with all its resources.
Executive Director Patrick Guerriero says writing discrimination into
the Constitution "violates conservative and Republican principles."
He says the measure wouldn't strengthen marriage -- it would weaken
the nation.
Political director Mark Mead accuses Bush of using the issue as a
"political football" at the same time hundreds of gay Republicans are
working in the Bush administration and working for his re-election.
Mead says Bush's call for an amendment will start a "culture war" that
could culminate in his defeat in November and the defeat of what Mead
calls "good Republicans who support us on equality."
