They never physically attacked anyone. Just challenged the black
students to a fight and called them names!!! Isn't that free speech?

Prison terms for men who taunted black Sutter County students

SACRAMENTO (AP) - Two former students of a Sutter County alternative
school were sentenced to nine months in federal prison Thursday for
intimidating black students so they would not attend school.

Jared Oreste Giampaoli, 20, and Steven Foster Little, 19, both of
Sutter, used threats of force to interfere with the black students'
civil rights, U.S. Magistrate Judge Peter A. Nowinski found in
imposing the sentence.

The men and their associates, who were not charged, used racial
epithets and challenged black students to fights in August and
September 2004, causing two black students to leave the Butte View
Continuation High School. The school, which had about 30 students,
teaches students who don't have enough credits to graduate from a
standard high school.

They pleaded guilty in September to charges of interfering with
federally protected rights and aiding and abetting as part of a plea
agreement. Each faced up to a year in prison.

The harassment culminated on Sept. 11, 2004, when Little and Giampaoli
painted a 20-foot swastika at the school's only entrance. They also
painted a giant lightning bolt and the number 23 - which corresponds
to W in the alphabet, meant to symbolize white power. The men dotted
the "i" in "white power" with a smaller swastika.

The plea agreement said the men and their associates wore their heads
shaved and greeted each other with Nazi salutes. It said they often
yelled "white power" out of car windows as they drove and threatened
students during breaks.
