Judge has sympathy for local addict; none for Rush Limbaugh
By Frank Graham (North Platte Bulletin)
Saying he didn’t have a "smidgen" of sympathy for people like Rush
Limbaugh but sympathy for people like the defendant, a Lincoln County
Judge sentenced a woman who was addicted to prescription drugs to
probation.
Lincoln County District Judge John Murphy said in court Monday it was
terrible when people get hooked on prescription drugs.
Murphy was sentencing Debra K. Murray-Nelson, aka Debra K. Bales and
Debra K. Murray.
She had pleaded no contest and was found guilty of possession of a
controlled substance.
Murray-Nelson, 42, 4030 West Second #B, had presented a prescription
that was no longer valid when caught with the narcotics Dec. 8, 2004.
"I’m so very sorry for what I did," Murray-Nelson said at her
sentencing.
"It was a hard lesson to learn. I’m ashamed. I hurt my family as well
as myself."
Blaine Gillett, Murray-Nelson’s attorney, said his client had been on
probation out of Red Willow County and had tested clean for nearly a
year now.
He said she now worked for the State of Nebraska and loved her job.
Murphy said the court was sympathetic with Murray-Nelson but that he
"couldn’t have a smidgen of sympathy for people like Rush Limbaugh."
Two years ago, conservative radio commentator Rush Limbaugh
acknowledged an addiction to OxyContin.
He took a leave from his nationally syndicated show to receive
treatment at a rehabilitation clinic.
Limbaugh, 54, of Palm Beach, has not been charged with a crime.
He's been a target of a Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office
investigation since his former housekeeper told a story of rampant
prescription drug abuse by Limbaugh.
The case has been drawn out in a Florida court for nearly two years
now, after prosecutors seized Limbaugh’s medical records in late 1003.
That set in motion more than 1½ years of appeals, which Limbaugh
eventually lost.

Harry
No. He lives in Florida and Jeb prefers he keeps doing his show.
