NEW YORK -- There were calls Sunday night to crack down on crimes
against the elderly, as police continued to hunt for the man
responsible for the vicious attacks on two women, one of them 101
years old, NewsChannel 4's Pei-Sze Cheng reported.

New Yorkers vented their anger over the weekend after watching the
building surveillance video at Jamaica Estates that caught a man in
his thirties beating up an elderly woman inside the entrance to her
building.
The elder victim, Rose Morat -- who is almost 101 years old --
suffered a fractured cheekbone in the attack.
Meanwhile, the thirtysomething man who attacked her on Saturday, March
4, was still on the loose Sunday.
On Sunday, the group 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care announced
a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction
of the man, Cheng said.
The group's Marq Claxton noted that "whenever there is a vicious
attack like this, it's important that we stand up against it."
Police said the same man is also responsible for beating up 85-year-
old Solange Elizee; it is believed the same man attacked her shortly
after mugging Morat.
Elizee's son Alfred told Cheng he was furious about the incident but
thankful for support from the police and the community.
Commissioner Ray Kelly issued a statement Saturday saying police were
pulling out all the stops to find the perpetrator.
The NYPD has posted flyers throughout the neighborhood asking for the
public's help in catching the man.
By Sunday, Kelly said, more than 1,000 outraged New Yorkers had called
the Crimestoppers hotline so far.
He said angry callers were mainly telling police what they themselves
would like to do to the suspect when he's caught.
Police urged anyone who can help identify the man on the videotape to
call the Crimestoppers hotline: 1-800-577-TIPS.
