Neo – CONNED !
The modern-day limited-government movement has been co-opted.
The conservatives have failed in their effort to shrink the size of
government. There has not been, nor will there soon be, a conservative
revolution in Washington. Party control of the federal government has
changed, but the inexorable growth in the size and scope of government
has
continued unabated. The liberal arguments for limited government in
personal
affairs and foreign military adventurism were never seriously considered
as
part of this revolution.
....
And it goes right back to;
"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can exist
only until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse (
gifts ) from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always
votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public
treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose
fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. - Alexander Fraser Tytler
(later Lord Alexander Fraser Woodhouslee), in "The Decline and Fall of the
Athenian Republic," published 1776.
"We have allowed our constitutional republic to deteriorate into a
virtually unchecked direct democracy. Today's political process is nothing
more than a street fight between various groups seeking to vote themselves
other people's money. Individual voters tend to support the candidate that
promises them the most federal loot in whatever form, rather than the
candidate who will uphold the rule of law." --Rep. Ron Paul
Politicians have figured out that they can safely ignore the Constitution
and Bill of Rights as a tired old obsolete document and practice pure
populist mob rule democracy. They realized that the ONLY way to get elected
in a mob rule democracy is by doling out gifts from the public treasury and
that's what it's ALL about nowdays. About satisfying ANY whim that enough
voters can form a big enough mob and come to them about.
We often drive by this ball park near an elementary school, at night, and
see the pee wee league out there playing. The place is lit up like a pro
baseball stadium, they must have 50 KW of lights there. What does it cost?
Maybe $600 a week? It doesn't matter. Who pays for it? Why the tax
victims.
Those people formed a big enough mob and went to the government and said;
Big Brother, we have a cherished whim that it would be so nice to dress our
8 year olds up in baseball uniforms and have them play night games in a
professional looking baseball park after school at night, just like the
real pros do. Please pay for it Big Brother. And Big Brother looked down
upon them with benevolence and did take the tax victims' money to pay for
it.
