NEW DELHI: In a move to strengthen India as a development base for
its solutions, Network Appliance, a leading provider of enterprise
network storage solutions is planning to scale up its Bangalore
development centre by taking its headcount to 300 from 65 by 2005.
"By 2005, we are looking at adding 100 people for our global support
centre while the rest would cater to the Indian market. At present,
the Bangalore centre is developing solutions for its product called
Net cache. In future, we will look at widening our development work
here," Network Appliance (NetApp) chief executive officer Dan
Warmenhoven said at a press conference here.
Mr Warmenhoven said, "the Bangalore development centre is the first
centre outside North America for the company. This centre is critical
for us and our plan is to grow this."
Nasdaq-listed NetApp is aiming for a revenue to the tune of $1.13
billion by April 2004 from $892 million in the last year. It is ranked
third among storage companies in India with a market share of 12 per
cent, after Hewlett-Packard and IBM.
Detailing future plans for the Indian market, Mr Warmenhoven said, "We
are targeting new sectors for the coming years that include
biotechnology and life sciences." The leading sectors for NetApp in
the country are the financial services, telecommunication, energy and
technology.
