New White House press secretary grilled on first day
White House-AP --
Thanks to the continuing furor over Iraqi weapons programs, Scott
McClellan's first day as White House Press Secretary was a baptism of
fire.
A day after his predecessor, Ari Fleischer, got a going-away grilling
on that subject, McClellan was quizzed again for the better part of 45
minutes.
And like his predecessor, he defended President Bush over the
erroneous assertion in his State of the Union speech that Iraq tried
to buy uranium in Africa.
Yesterday, Bush told reporters the doubts about the claim surfaced
after his speech. Intelligence officials say it was before.
But McClellan insisted Bush did not mis-speak.
Bush also said weapons inspectors were barred from Iraq before the war
-- when in fact they went in.
But McClellan says Bush meant that the inspectors were kept from doing
their jobs.
Plausible. Everyone knows that Bush has a hard time getting ideas across
without a teleprompter. Many people suggest that he has dyslexia, and I
wouldn't be surprised.
Sorry,
He wasn't using a teleprompter. He was using his *LAUGH* brain.

He's certainly got a tough job ahead.

New definition of irony:
'Today's liberal Democrats are like the supporters of the Third Reich of
the
'30's and '40's
- they absolutely trusted the government to "make things right". '
