New Freedom Initiative - fascism with a smile? |
Anybody else know about this bill, or why it passed the Senate and House?
From what I gather reading between the lines on the official government
website, it is a program to take disabled people who have disabilities such
as blindness, low vision, deafness, paralysis, etc., and force them into the
workforce. The glittering generalities on the governments website makes
it sound like the best thing since sliced bread, but again, if you read
between the lines, the effort is clearly to find a way to get "deadbeats" in
wheelchairs and blind people to work. Workforce, workforce, workforce.
This is repeated over and over, as if getting a job is the only "cure" the
disabled need (well, since Bush is going to ban embryonic stem cell research
and human therapeutic cloning, I guess it will have to do... a big middle
finger to the big W from me), and as if all the problems of social injustice
will just magically fade away once disabled people get jobs.
From reading on many other websites, it also seems to have provisions for
screening of the population for mental illness, especially children, and the
recommendation of pharmaceutical drugs (I can't figure out if the government
pays for it, or it comes out of pocket). Children would be required to be
screened to go to school. I cannot find government information on this,
though, so perhaps it is hidden away in the bill, or perhaps it's just a
rumor- but it's one I've read alot on many websites. Maybe they are trying
t omake money for pharmaceutical companies and get us all drugged and blaise
at the same time.
It just sounds mean-spirited to me, although they are trying their
damnedest to put a nice spin on it. I do think we need to help all disabled
people live more productive lives OF THEIR OWN CHOOSING, but I don't think
it should be "to get them in the workforce... you loafers". That just
sounds too much like crass disabled-bashing,

Unfortunately, it looks like we are going to have more of this
mean-spiritedness in the future. After all, what was I expecting from a
Republican House, Senate, and Prisedency? These are the same folks that
wanted to rip children and away from their poor parents and haul them off to
orphanages during the Gingrich years.
It's fascism- with a smile.

Apparently, you don't even adhere to the very "definitions" of fascism you
post. You just make it up as you go along.
