Object: New gas price record
Averaged across the country, gasoline prices are up 49.4 cents from a
year ago, the EIA reported.
Gasoline prices rose in every region of the country in the week ended
Monday.
Prices were lowest on the Gulf Coast.
But even there, the heart of the U.S. refining industry, they averaged
$2.184, up 4.3 cents on the week and 52.1 cents on the year.
From The Associated Press, 4/11/05:

Agency: Gas Prices Reach $2.28 Per Gallon
NEW YORK -
U.S. gasoline prices again soared to a record last week, and average
prices on the West Coast rose above the $2.50 a gallon mark, the
federal Energy Information Administration said Monday.
The nationwide average price of regular gasoline rose 6.3 cents to a
record $2.28 a gallon, according to the EIA, the statistics arm of the
U.S. Department of Energy.
Prices on the West Coast, typically the country's highest, shot up by
13 cents to $2.52.

And please Harry, what is the short term soluition? And don't say
electric or solar or anything like that. What has to be done is going to
be short term, until we can get to alternitve sources.
People say it would take 5 years minimum to set up a power cell car that

Well, I'm not Harry, but I'll be happy to repeat many of the easily
implemented solutions that have been suggested over the last few years.
An immediate increase of CAFE standards, allowing a 2 year oahse in period
to allow auto manufacturers to retool.
Make SUV's and trucks subject to CAFE standards, with the same lead time.
An immediate federal parking tax and an associated credit for carpooling..
This would also include the includintg the true market price of free
employee parking as a taxable benefit.
Diversion of fedearl highway funds and FAA capital funds to mass trnsit
systems --- buses in the short term, rail in the long term.
An immediate moratorium on spending federal monies for new highway
construction.
Determine which areas of the country are powered by gas and oil fired
electric generators. Implement energy reduction programs i n those areas
such as reducing decorative lighting, shutting down unneeded electric
devices, or reducing the hours of operation of heavy current sinks.
Among many, many others.
Bush has nade it a matter of national security that we invade Iraq --- a
lie. But the petroleum shortage is in fact a true natioinal seurity issue,
and we need to address the shortages now.
Gas in my area has goen up $0.15 a gallon in the last 2 weeks, $.30 a gallon
this years, and over $.50 a gallon in the last year. Employment and business
are already suffering.

Pretty damn simple, isn't it?
Rightards want others to fix their problems for them. They think it's their
right to have cheap gas.
These Rightards will never take any responsibility, their own especially.

There is one.
Toyota and Honda makes them. The CAFE standards that were gutted by the Georgie
King would have cattle prodded the car manufacturers to at least think of
putting one out. Ford has, (finally). Hybrids increase mileage by a factor of 2.
Gas prices could double and not hurt the consumer. Now Toyota and Honda will
have to continue rolling in dough, our trade deficit will grow even larger, as
our American counterparts get buried underneath un-sold gas-gulping Slummer 2's,
thanks to King George the IVth's short-sightedness.

People say it would take 5 years minimum to set up a power cell car that

We don't need fuel cel cars you morOn. If we cut fuel consumption by HALF, what
would happen to gas prices?

So what is the answer, Harry?

It isn't hard, I've posted it before in response to one of Harry's posts.
The best you can come up with is the stupid CAFE standards. That is
*****.
Here is what should be done short term.
1. One formulation of gas for the nation. There are over 40 formulations
of gas used in different communities at different times. This puts a
strain on the refineries. It costs money to have what few refinereies to
switch from one formulation to another. One would lower costs.
2. BUILD MORE REFINERIES!!! There hasn't been a new refinery built in over
25 years. Liberals would not allow it. This ***** has to stop. We
are at capacity now, it does not matter if we get more oil or not. The
libs have to move aside and let progress take over.
3. Susspend state and federal gas taxes. At least temporary during the
summer. that would cut over 50 cents off the cost.
4. DRILL IN ANWR AND COASTAL AREAS! The less we are dependant on forign
oil the better. The ragheads have us over a barrell, if we can increase
domestic production by 10 percent, that would translate into a great
savings.
There you have it leftards, a reasoned logical apporach to the oil crisis.

The "Solution" you posted, pinhead, is King George the IVth's policy NOW.
BTW, How would building more refineries help? We are already at peak oil
extraction. If there was a surplus of crude, oil would be cheaper, not more
expensive.

Remember that great minds line. it does not apply to you.
To make gas into oil what has to happen?
Does john kerry wave a magic wand over a barrell of oil and it becomes gas?
No.
The oil is sent to REFINERIES!! There it is made into gas. More
refineries means more gas means lower prices.
Simple supply and demand.
but to many of the libs in the ng, simple is beyond your grasp.

Do you mean oil? MAKING oil?
Organic matter and much force per unit area and a lot of time...

Does john kerry wave a magic wand over a barrell of oil and it becomes gas?

King George the IVth opens his mouth and we get gas. He said so himself before
the 2000 selection.

No.

*Applause*

*MORE Applause*

More refineries mean more PAPER WEIGHTS.

Hey ***** F' brains.
OIL is sold by the barrel and is CRUDE. Not REFINED. The price is set at the
START of the pipeline, FOOL.
Where do the Rightwing hierarchy find morons/Rightards like you?
We need to REDUCE DEMAND. They are already DRILLING at FULL capacity! ANWAR, if
drilled, Wouldn't be available for another DECADE!!!! Were talking SHORT term,
Right, RIGHTARD????

but to many of the libs in the ng, simple is beyond your grasp.

Only to the simple minded are things simple.

True enought. Bush and Cheney, being in the oil business knew the score
coming in. They have had nearly 4-1/2 years to do something. Had they
pulled their head out of their ***** and lead, that affordable power cell
car will be coming to a showroom near you this fall.

Totally wrong, leftard.
Sit down and shut the ***** up!

What a wonderfully erudite rebuttal of his points. I guess you really told
him!

Averaged across the country, gasoline prices are up 49.4 cents from

a

year ago, the EIA reported.

And please Harry, what is the short term soluition? And don't say
electric or solar or anything like that. What has to be done is

going to

be short term, until we can get to alternitve sources.

People say it would take 5 years minimum to set up a power cell car

that

would be affordable.

So what is the answer, Harry? You profess to knowing it all, so

impress

us.

And in Freddie's tradition, you must come up with MY ANSWER!!!!

Nothing

else will do.

I'll tell you this. If everyone bought a Prius tomorrow, the oil
companies, General Motors and Ford would ***** their pants.
The most outrageous thing is our insatiable urge for horsepower --
sort of like being the boy with the biggest hard-on on the block.
AND even worse is that I understand for a Hummer, one can get a
huge tax break -- so the government is partly to blame.
Further Congress should long ago raised the miles per gallon limit,
but never had the courage to do so -- and now we're paying the price
-- literally. Why should automobile companies make cars that are
more efficient when they can sell the Motor Monsters at a larger
profit.
Another problem is the fools who think we can DRILL our way out
of this shortage. Hell, if the ANWR were to come online tomorrow
it would last a few months and we would be back where we were.
We have to FACE THE FACT that lots of other people were blessed
with oil under their surface in much larger quantities than we.
AND we have pissed away much of what we do have.
But consider: the world's oil production hit its maximum
exactly as predicted about 1995 as I recall and has been going
downhill ever since. But ever since Nixon promised "energy
independence" people have refused to face the fact. We have
a very limited supply of oil, and even the nations where oil
seems plentiful are beginning to run short.
And incidentally, THINK what will happen when the Chinese
start coming vigorously into the market. Do you know that GM
sells more Buicks in China than in the US????????? It's NOT
the Redcoats that are "coming"; it's the Chinese.

Wrong answer, leftard!
as I said, come up with my answer.
Unlike Green-jeans and Freddie the dumpster diver, at least I'm honest about
wanting my answer rather than say give me a answer and when you come up with
one totally ignore it.

Write your Congressmen and ask them to explain to you the impact of the
commodities' speculation by the shylocks and moneychangers on the price of
crude, refined product and matural gas. Nixon, another republican traitor,
allowed crude to be traded like wheat at the instructions of his svengali,
Kissinger.

Gas prices will continue to rise as demand from China and India
continues their upward climb. I guess the US could sign the Kyoto
agreement and shut down our markets and let the Chinese rule the world
for the next hundred years or so.

Harry

Well, a couple of points. First, the price of gas is not at record
levels when properly adjusted for inflation. But, that doesn't sound
good to the sky is falling crowd, does it? Second, none of the
responses that I have yet read mentions rolling back some of the
rediculous restrictions that have resulted from the environmental
movement. It's a wonder that oil companies can produce anything at all
given how their hands are tied. California anyone???
If everyone bought a prius, as some have suggested, then it won't be
long before the govt is complaining that not enough gas is being sold
and not enough tax revenue is being brought in as a result. Small cars
are fine for milage, but not convenient in the real world. Try taking
a family of 5 on a vacation in one of those matchbox cars.
