NO JOBS will be lost as a result of the closure of Low Moss Prison.

The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) has reassured the 154 staff,
and the Prison Officers Association (POA), that there will be no
redundancies and that all staff will be redeployed to other facilities.
The Bishopbriggs prison is to close on May 28 so that a new
facility - more than three times the size and double the capacity -
can be built on the site.
Jim Dawson, assistant secretary for the POA, said,: "We've
known for some time that Low Moss is antiquated and no
longer fit for purpose.
"It remains to be seen what the full impact of this closure will
be, but there is new accommodation being built which should
absorb the prison population."
A spokesperson for the SPS said: "The prison will now be
run down, with prisoners and staff moving elsewhere.
"Once the prison is closed on May 28, the site will be cleared
and the tendering process for building the new prison will begin."
