News media will help set man free free (from fear, hatred, bigotry, terrorism, war, exploitation, & ignorance). |
In the near future, the primary objective of the news media will be
to spread the truth which will set us free (from fear, hatred,
bigotry, terrorism, war, exploitation, and ignorance). They will
inform people of important facts about what is going on in their
world, with an emphasis on the news that affects our lifes and
well-being... as opposed to focussing on ratings and profits.
It's a shame that the American press is so corrupt. It's not the
fault of the news media personnel - its the result of the control that
a small handful of billionaires have over these, their assets. They
directed 'their' people to mindlessly regurgitate white house and
pentagon spin - during our illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq, now
thanks to their co-operation with the corrupt Bush regime, we are more
'at risk' now than before 9-11, of a huge terrorist attack.
These billionaires decide who the major presidential canidates will
be. Anyone who would not respect and support their monopoly on
prestige and extreme wealth doesn't seem to have a chance. O'Neill
pointed out that invading Iraq was at the top of Bush's list - even
before 9-11 - but the news media didn't bother to harp on that -
instead they're supporting Bush by harping on 'intelligence failures'.
It boils down to more BS to keep the masses in the dark. Both Bush
and Kerry are 'skull and bones' fellows therefore - trustworth
players (in the eyes of the ruling elite).
It's very comforting to know that all of this insanity will soon
pass. Only the truth will set us free.

Somehow, I doubt that. Not because that shouldn't be the objective,
but because the news media may cease to exist as news media.
Bear in mind what the ideals of the Internet are: instantaneous
transmission of information across the planet, from my computer
to yours, from your computer to his/hers, from his/her computer to mine.
Depending on our respective temperaments/authority/honesty, that
information may be true "front-line" information, an analysis of
information garnered from other sources, complete speculation, or
outright fiction.
Is this the direction we're headed? Pure speculation on my part.
Bear also in mind that news media has to sell, either to the public
(subscription sales) or to their advertisers. But I think you've
got that part more or less covered below.

Ultimately, it may be our fault, for being complacent. However, the
billions of dollars of controlling interest will definitely not help.

There is the problem of trust, as always: who is more trustworthy?
CNN, which has thousands of employees sifting through leads and
paid by aforementioned billionaires (which, as it turns out, is
Ted Turner et al)? Or some organization that I for one have heretofore
not heard of?
I'm also wondering who's funding www.disinfo.com.
Not to say your goal isn't laudable, given the problem as you state it.
I just don't know you. :-) Given the situation in the world today,
a certain skepticism is probably expected.
That skepticism, to be sure, cuts both ways. What's really happening?
Is CNN reporting it properly? How about ABC, NBC, Yahoo? Even the
BBC, that august international reporting engine, appears to have had a
bit of a blowout.
We live in interesting times.
