For the first time in a year, Bush's approval ratings on Iraq have
dropped below 50 percent
By Laura Fording
NEWSWEEK WEB EXCLUSIVE
As Americans focus on the fiscal realities of creating a stable Iraq,
President George W. Bush’s approval ratings continue to slide, the
poll shows.
The president’s approval rating now stands at 51 percent, down 1 point
from last week’s poll and from 65 percent on May 1, when major
hostilities in Iraq ended.
For the first time in a year, Bush’s approval for his handling of the
situation in Iraq has dropped below 50 percent to 46 percent, a
5-point drop from last week.
Fifty-six percent of Americans say they think the amount of money
being spent in Iraq is too high.
And 57 percent of Americans now disapprove of how Bush is handling the
economy, an increase of 6 points from only one week ago.
The NEWSWEEK poll was conducted by Princeton Survey Research
Associates, which interviewed 1,001 adults by telephone on September
18 and 19.
The margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Not really any different than Clinton's approval rating at the same
point in his first term. Actually, Bush's are still higher.

The words "war-time president" come to mind. Numbers are substantially
higher when troops are on the ground fighting a war because of fear of
sounding unpatriotic (even though the opposite is the case).
Lop off ten to fifteen percent for the war-time factor and see how monkey-
boy's numbers look.

Well, that seems to substantiate your claim, now who is "American
Political Network?" and where does this poll appear so that it may be
verified.
I've seen a number of polls that suggest other numbers
http://www.rollcall.com/pub/winston/
Clinton’s in August 1995, his third year in office, and we see
Clinton’s job approval average was 46 percent approve/43 percent
disapprove.
http://www.delawaregop.com/Templates/Breaking/BreakingNews.asp?ID=167
Clinton’s job approval average was 46 percent approve/43 percent
disapprove.
The point being it is sloppy and does not engender acceptance of your
point if you do not include references and cites for your claims
and bland statements with ambiguous and/or biased sources are worse
than nothing at all.
A good site that generally supports your claims would be something
more along the lines of;
http://www.harrisinteractive.com/harris_poll/index.asp?PID=199
See the difference?

Thanks for adding your own cites that show Bush's numbers aren't a whole
lot off of what Clinton's were at the same point in their terms. You
were so fixated on discreaditing my source that you made my point for
me. Thanks.

Your mistake in misinterpreting constructive criticism as
"discrediting or refuting," I was merely pointing out that the using
of accurate facts and solid, unbiased sources and reference makes for
a much stronger argument and discussion than unsupported statements
and obviously biased sources. Occasionally it takes a few minutes of
research, but it is much better to spend that time and make your point
convincingly, than not to, and have your entire argument refuted on
minor misstatements or errors.

Your constructive criticism is somewhat subjective. Perhaps to you the
source I used is not factually accurate, solid or unbiased. I disagree.
Bottom line is it jibes with what I've suggested all along...that
Bush's numbers are similar to Clinton's at the same point in their
terms. The numbers you provided say exactly the same. Seems my source
is no more or less credible than yours.

The poll numbers are low because of manipulation by
the liberal media, you simpleton.
When are liberal clowns like you going to support our
country instead of always striving to bring it down?

Actually, they are considerably above Clinton's at the same time.
Based on past history, I would be surprised if Bush got less than 55%
of the vote. I would not be surprised if he got more than 60%.

We do support this country. Bushis destroying it.
The only way to be a true American patriot is to oppose Bush with all one's
might.
It is you who are the unpatriotic, unAmerican right winger who supports the
destruction of this nation by supporting a lying, incopetent far right
extremist who may in fact be destroying America's institutions purposefully
with a far right hidden agenda, accourding to the book newly published by
Paul Krugman.
This ***** monkey Bush has lied his way into a war we are not winning,
costing us hundreds of billions, creating a massive terrorist playground in
Iraq, while we accumulate the most massive deficits and debts ever seen in
human history.
And you applaud it all.
You are un-Amercian and an anti-patriot, all that matters to you is far
right ideology.
The GOP is destroying us all.
The GOP with Bush at its head is accomplishing what the USSR and Hitler's
Germany could not.
I would like to see all of you locked up by the next Patriot Act!
