Natural Gas Prices Set Record, Pointing to Costly Winter
By JAD MOUAWAD
Published: September 29, 2005
Natural gas prices set a new record today, presaging higher heating
bills for a majority of Americans this winter as well as soaring costs
for industrial manufacturers of such products as plastics and
chemicals.
Since the beginning of the summer, the price of natural gas has
doubled. But unlike crude oil or gasoline, whose recent gains have
been widely felt by most Americans, the surge in natural gas prices,
the most popular form of energy for home heating, has so far gone
largely unnoticed.
That is about to change as colder weather sets in. A hot summer, which
pushed up natural gas consumption by electricity companies and
depleted winter stocks, is expected to give way to a cold winter,
which will push up residential consumption. Meanwhile, the Gulf Coast,
the nation's largest energy hub, has suffered devastating punches from
two severe hurricanes.
All these factor have now come together to create a natural gas
crisis.
"It's still under most people's radar screen right now," said Carl
Neill, an analyst at Risk Management Inc., a natural gas consultant
and brokerage firm Chicago. "The public has absolutely no idea how
high prices are going to be this year. It's going to be mind-boggling.
Price are going to be 50 to 100 percent higher for residential
consumers than in previous year."

Re: Next Bush disaster - Natural gas shortage means

Wow! It's not even here yet and you're already blaming it
on Bush! Now you're a psycho AND a psychic?
Who's in charge?
Listen closely; HE'S NOT IN CHARGE OF EVERY ***** THING THAT
MOVES, YOU MORON!!!
Who was elected to the Office of the
President of the United States of America?
Who?
Enron? Texaco? Exxon? PG & E?
Who is the President? Who's job is it to protect America?
Ken Lay? Tom DeLay?
Who?
Who took an oath to protect Americans against enemies from
within? Don't you think the Greedmeisters who cause
recessions are enemies of the People?
Who? Who is the President if Bush isn't?
Well, those are very easy questions, which is about what I
would expect from a moron like you. No wonder you don't
understand the situation.

You know damn well that gasoline prices have doubled or more in the
last year or so. What you may not have the capacity to understand is
the ripple effect this has through the rest of the economy.
If you'd like me to scan this month's gas bill and last months to show
you the %50 increase which has already happened (with more price hikes
to come according to Saturday's newspaper) I could do that if you
seriously don't believe the truth.

Yes, your questions are SOOO complicated and insightful. You
must be so impressed with yourself. It's a shame that you are
the only one in that club. Allow me to explain once again, *****-
for-brains, since you deleted half my answer, which means it is
no longer in your tiny little head. The thread began with one

Bush once again. You completed the idiot hat trick by pretending

Gas prices are on the way down;
http://www.losangelesgasprices.com/retail_price_chart.aspx
And heating oil?
Energy futures mostly lower, but concerns about supply persist
in U.S.
WASHINGTON, Oct 03, 2005 (The Canadian Press via COMTEX) --
Energy futures retreated Monday after power was restored to a
large refinery in Texas and the U.S. administration said it was,
in principle, prepared to tap an emergency supply of heating oil
in the northeast.
But analysts said they did not expect fuel prices to fall
sharply anytime soon because of the persistent supply
constraints caused by back-to-back hurricanes.
In the aftermath of Katrina and Rita, a dozen refineries along
the Gulf of Mexico coast remain closed, crimping gasoline and
heating-oil production, and oil and natural gas output is far
below normal levels.
= = = = = =
Want to tell us how Bush could have stopped those back to
back hurricanes that are causing this temporary spike? Or do you
want to keep ignoring that part of this thread?
What you may not have the capacity to understand...
You do not have the brains to keep up with this thread, let

Wow! It's not even here yet and you're already
blaming it on Bush! Now you're a psycho AND a
psychic?
Who's in charge?
Listen closely; HE'S NOT IN CHARGE OF EVERY *****
THING THAT MOVES, YOU MORON!!!
He certainly isn't in charge of any plan for
prosperity in the face of this energy crisis.
You wouldn't know an energy crisis if it jumped up
and bit you on the *****. This isn't one.
You don't think doubling the cost of gasoline and heating
fuel is a problem? How do you make it through the day
without stumbling out in front of a moving truck with
your head so far up your *****?
Allow me to explain politely, *****-for-brains.
A: A 'problem' is not a 'crisis'.
B: It hasn't happened yet.
Well there you have it.
You either just A) lied, or B) don't know what you are
talking about. You know damn well that gasoline prices have
doubled or more in the last year or so.
No, listen again, *****-for-brains. We are talking about a
natural gas shortage, as evidenced by the "Subject line".
You apparently didn't really comprehend my question which clearly asked
about gasoline and natural gas prices.
This?: "You don't think doubling the cost of gasoline and heating fuel
is a problem?"
Since gasoline is now available at $2.85 a gallon, that would mean that
it was at $1.43. When was that? That wasn't any time recently.

So they are even more frightened than we are, he thought. Why, is this
all that's meant by heroism? And did I do it for the sake of my country?
And was he to blame with his dimple and his blue eyes? How frightened he
was! He thought I was going to kill him. Why should I kill him? My hand
trembled. And they have given me the St. George's Cross. I can't make it
out, I can't make it out! +-Leo Tolstoy, "War and Peace"

I think it's the only way to drive people to seek more efficient energy
use and to encourage companies to create more supply, especially
domestically derived.

Bush has been in office going on 6 years now.

What is "energy R&D"?
It seems stupid to burn natural gas to generate electricity. How much
money has he spent on Clean Coal research?
You do realize that the president isn't able to spend funds at his own
whim but has to "check with the Congress" first, don't you? Clean Coal
is one of the things that Bush has been trying to encourage. We have a
lot of coal to clean, you know.
What has he done to reduce energy usage and encourage conservation?
He's called, at the right time BTW, for people to conserve gasoline and
diesel. Conservation will not solve the problem no matter how many
Liberals try to claim otherwise.
We have had a huge housing boom going on for years now. I wonder if
these houses have 6-inch walls and double or triple pane windows? What
has he done to encourage or promote energy efficiency in these new
houses?
Code for new houses is certainly going to require this sort of thing.
Haven't you heard of "Energy Star" and "Super Good Cents"? Some of this
comes from the federal government, some from states and some from local
codes: http://egov.oregon.gov/ENERGY/CONS/RES/manhme.shtml

At the very least the problem of controlling emissions would be
focused on capturing the CO2 at generating plants, a tractable problem
compared with trying to capture it from every auto.
Electric cars could have been common place. Cities would be a lot
nicer smelling and quieter.
But you'd need to have a right-fit driving plan, not a law against
owning cars that burn gasoline.

Hydrogen Fuel. Great Britain is already selling Hydrogen Fueled
motocycles.
Looks like a motorcycle, quiet as a bicycle.
Hydrogen has as its main source, natural gas. You didn't know that, did
you?
Yes. Clean burning natural gas. Why?
There is supposed to be a shortage of natural gas, I hear.
Yeah, I got you point but consider the value on the motorcycle's specs as
opposed to the $3+ a gallon currently for fossil fuel.
Also why isn't Bush firing up the Corn alcohol. It's clean as well as
abundant.
How much fossil fuel does it take to grow a gallon of Eth? Moving our
farmers to home grown fuel is more vital than moving other parts of the
economy because farming is a national security issue and farmers who can
grow food without external inputs would be able to continue to provide
us with food even in a fuel crisis.

That just makes the crunch come sooner. What you have to do instead is
figure out how to use the gas you have more efficiently. We are doing
some VERY stupid things with energy. Internal combustion engines are
only 20% efficient. They waste 4/5 of the energy. What a
*****-brained thing to do when energy is tight?
What do you think the efficiency is in an oil fired electric plant when
you consider the line losses, the losses in storing in a car battery,
etc.?
Bush's policies have instead of encouraging efficiency and
conservation have been aimed an stimulating consumption.
We have to grow the economy. Of course if everyone would get behind
right-fit driving, we could stimulate the economy, a lot of people would
need to buy another car, and we'd start conserving in non manufacturing
energy use.

They are much more efficient at lower speeds like 55mph. And the
lower speeds also save thousands of lives every year. It's a
no-brainer but no one is talking about this even though the 55 was
implemented in the 70s and worked beautifully.

It did not. People had to push it with drive times across the state of
six or more hours. That last hour is the most dangerous. If you can
avoid it, good.
