Frigging Nora! Tony Blair sent me an email about the NHS!
I think he means the Negligent Havoc System?
Hello all. If you care to read Tony Blair's email he seems to have
mass spammed to numerous people today, then you can look below and
also see my reply to him :)
He must really have a Bee in his bonnet about this.
I don't know where he got my email address from so that's unsolicited,
and I don't know were he got the idea that I am a Labour supporter?
I've copied in politics.usa to the post, and a word of warning to
Americans. "Never ever adopt a public healthcare system". They only
work in special circumstances. For us Brits those circumstances were
after WWII. Today in the 21ST Century a public healthcare system is
no longer needed in Great Britain.

Dear Labour supporter,

Labour is the party of the NHS. Always was. Always will be. The Tories
opposed the setting up of the NHS. They have opposed the investment and
reforms of this Labour Government.

Yesterday Michael Howard highlighted one case, that of a patient who had
her operation cancelled several times. Where that happens, it is
unacceptable. In a health service that treats one million people every 36
hours, not everyone will get perfect treatment. But for Mr Howard to take
one case and use it to undermine the whole of the NHS is typical and wrong.

I welcome the fact that the election debate is beginning to focus on the
public services. People will not easily forget the cuts and privatisation
programme that undermined our hospitals for years. With Labour, spending is
up, waiting times are down, standards of care are improving.

When we launched our Proud of Britain campaign, and asked people what made
them proud of Britain, the NHS came up again and again. Today we are putting
just a sample of these "Proud of the NHS" testimonies on our website and
we're asking for new comments too. We want to know what makes you proud of
the NHS. Share the stories from your community. There is so much to be proud
of. So let's hear about it:

The coming election will be a fight for the future of the NHS. We have to
win it. With the help of people who believe in the NHS, we will.

Yours sincerely,

Tony Blair

Dear Prime Minister
I am not a Labour Party supporter, or a member of any political party.
I vote for whoever I think has the best policies and will do the best
job, and also if the party currently in power has lived up to
expectations and done a good job, that determines whether I will vote
for them again. The past two national elections I have voted for
Labour. In local elections I always vote Conservative because Labour
and Liberal are pathetic. In Euro elections I vote for the
Independence Party.
As for the Conservatives highlighting one case, why shouldn't they
highlight it, especially when the person concerned has quite obviously
suffered extremely bad treatment on the NHS?
I seem to recall in one of the elections in the late 80's or early
90's Labour were doing the exact same thing and highlighting cases so
I think it is a little hypocritical, don't you? I suppose that
politics are generally full of hypocrisy though.
As for there only being one case were someone has suffered bad
treatment on the NHS under Labour government, I think you will find
that is also inaccurate. There are numerous cases of appalling
treatment! For every good case you hear about, you hear many more very
negative ones. I'd suggest that it is a 75/25 split, 75% bad, 25
good, and the present Labour government seems to not be taking
responsibility for that, and making excuses. You seem to have a bee
in your bonnet about the Conservatives highlighting your failure to
deal with Healthcare effectively. The NHS does a good job of
undermining itself, it doesn't need anyone to highlight one case,
there are many! You have pumped a lot of money into it as you say,
however has it made much of a difference? We have certainly felt the
money leave our pockets, but are we getting a good deal in return?
Are you just propping up an old goat for a bit longer? It is still a
very bureaucratic wasteful service the NHS, and attempts to modernise
it don't seem to have worked thus far. It is not a very fair,
efficient or effective system. I believe 60 years ago after the end
of WWII, the NHS had a useful purpose and it was needed back then.
We don't expect "perfect" healthcare in this country, and have never
expected that! Perfection is inhuman! What we expect in a first world
developed nation is efficient, speedy healthcare delivered to high
standards. We are not getting that, have not been getting that, and,
most probably will never ever get that again if a decrepit public
healthcare system like the NHS is allowed to continue for much longer
in this country.
I can safely say our national health care system the NHS is a complete
joke at the moment! It costs Billions to run, its full of
bureaucracy, patients have to wait weeks, months, even years until
they are treated and a lot die while waiting! It was okay 50 or 60
years ago after World War 2, it certainly had it's purpose, but it has
failed to modernise. It is literally falling apart at the seams! It's
a definite sinking ship. In the modern world there is no need for
such a costly inefficient public health care system. It doesn't
matter now who started the rot and whether the Conservatives caused
all this, you are currently in government, YOU DEAL WITH IT! You have
been in power for seven years and I can't see that you have made that
much of a difference! You should have done more to deal with it by
now. Pumping more money into something that is critically flawed isn't
going to solve anything, it will probably make things worse. You need
to let go of the fact that this was your little agitprop. Wake up and
smell the coffee! This Dinosaur has stayed alive for longer that it
should have! Times have changed and we need to change and move on as
well! The Labour government seems to be incapable of letting go to
this dead donkey and modernising.
It would be a lot better for everything here in the UK to be
privatised as in the United States. At least I would be paying for my
own plan and not that of somebody else! Why should I have to pay to
treat people who have smoked and taken drugs all their lives when they
get lung cancer? The answer is that I shouldn't have to. If
everything was privatised here then the people who smoke would pay
more for their health care and I'd pay less. We would also be able to
shop around as their would be competition! We would be able to chose
the company that was best for our needs. At the moment the trouble is
that we pay a lot for the public health care system but get very
little in return. A lot of people choose to go with a private health
care plan here, but the thing is that you can't actually opt out of
the public one! You still have to pay for that as well! It gets taken
out of your salary before you even see it! So only people who are
quite well off can afford to go private.
The sooner someone gets rid of public healthcare the better.
I believe you should adopt a strategy to implement privatisation,
however what you should do is have the funding done by the same method
currently used! So the Healthcare money is taken straight from your
salary and you have to pay for healthcare. This way it would ensure
that everyone was covered and nobody could possibly not be treated.
What you should do is turn the NHS in to NHS Ltd. People who wish to
stick with it can do so. However, people who wish to go with another
company can switch if they want. The funding would still come from
your salary but go to whichever healthcare company you were with.
Good luck for the next election. I think you're going to need it to
stay in power for a third term.
Yours sincerely
John

Title: Re: NHS. The Negligent Havoc System! 08 Mar 2005 02:59:38 PM
I forgot to mention, I don't personally know of anyone who has had
good treatment on the NHS under Labour government! I do however know
of two relations who have experienced very bad treatment under Labour!
My Uncle John who died 5 years ago, was taken ill suddenly. He had
brain cancer, which, was irreversible and had spread too far for them
to be able to treat effectively. He was left in the corridor of the
hospital on a flimsy trolley to die because they didn't have anywhere
to put him for quite a long time, and, he had people walking up and
down the corridor bumping into him when he was critically ill, and
should have been in intensive care!
And also last June in 2004 my Mothers cousin had a heart attack. He
was taken to hospital, and they discovered he had 80% blocked arteries
and would need an triple heart bypass operation urgently! He had to
wait and has only recently in January 2005 had the operation 7 months
later!!!
If Mr Blair thinks that things are getting better on the NHS, because
they are in government, then they are seriously deluded! This is not
the general consensus or experience of the British population. So for
every good case you find, you will find several more bad ones. Being
"the party of the NHS" today is far from anything to be proud of. And
before Blair gets a bee in his bonnet about the Tories highlighting
one negative case, I suggest he casts his eyes back to the late 80s
and early 90s, when his party was trying to get elected, and doing the
exact same thing!
John
