(sigh) NIST is responsible for such things as the maintenance of the
meter standard, the speed of light standard, the time standard and the
standards involved in hundreds of chemicals. What they aren't is any
ones *****. There are some times when NIST and I have had disputes but
they have been perfectly rational. You may not like NIST's results
but you have to respect how they got there.

Oh, they're CheneyBush's ***** alright.
As functionaries, they seem to be adequate.
As the sole forensic investigators for the most devastating military failure
(and engineering catastrophe) in US history, they have fallen flat on their
faces. Why? Because they're not law enforcement officials with forensic
investigative experience. They were told what to conclude, what evidence
was to be included and excluded, what events to avoid investigating, and
then had to figure out how to bend reality make it all fit into a
neat-and-tidy report without incriminating anyone in the civilian
administration or the military. That's a tall order; but it doesn't bear
much resemblance to reality.
NIST's forever-temporary (still not finalized) report - really more like a
footnote - about the WTC collapses has been thoroughly debunked. Yet they
have not issued any retractions, nor have they corrected course to include
the new evidence (which was there all along, they just chose to ignore it).
I conclude that NIST is CheneyBush's *****, instructed to stall their final
report until after the Bush junta is out of office.
