Air marshal fatally shoots man at Miami airport
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10367598/from/RSS/
MIAMI - An agitated passenger who claimed to have a bomb in
his backpack was shot and killed by a federal air marshal
Wednesday after he bolted frantically from a jetliner that was
boarding for take off, officials said. No bomb was found.
Homeland Security Department spokesman Brian Doyle said the
dead passenger was a 44-year-old U.S. citizen. NBC News' Pete
Williams said an official identified the man as Rigoberto Alpizar.
The passenger was confronted by air marshals but ran off the
aircraft, Doyle said.
The marshals pursued and ordered the passenger to get on the
ground, but the man did not comply and was shot when apparently
reaching into the bag, Doyle said.
After the shooting, investigators spread passengers' bags on the
tarmac and let dogs sniff them for explosives, and bomb squad
members blew up at least two bags.
NBC News confirmed that authorities searching the man's
carry-on backpack did not find a bomb.
Martin Gonzalez, spokesman for Colombia's civil aviation agency,
said the flight had "left normally with no problems."

Apparently the Air Marshal believed the raving man
more than Baggage Security, who let him on the plane.

Sounds like "suicide by cop" to me.

Where I work, Loss Prevention-Security tells us one important thing. If a
person says he is gonna hurt or KILL SOMEONE, you are to take them
seriously. One such gentleman said he was going to kill a co-worker (a
man that I would like to see dead) and had the size to make it happen, I
called security to break up the situation.
The simularity is that if someone says they have a bomb or weapon, you treat
it SERIOUSLY! The jackball said he had a bomb, he reached into his bag, a
REASONABLE person would assume that he would either grab a weapon or
detonate the bomb. Split second decision. To me and many others the
decision is clear. After the hijackings of 9/11 it should be clear to
everyone else too.
But the question I have is what would you do?
Apparently the Air Marshal believed the raving man

keep on living in your little liberal dream world!

I wouldn't let you be in charge of security of a gas station let alone a
airport.

Did that guy say he had a bomb after going through a
baggage checkpoint before he entered the building?
The simularity is that if someone says they have a bomb or weapon, you treat
it SERIOUSLY!
51% the people in America will sell their souls for a $300 tax rebate.
Are you going to kill them all?
The jackball said he had a bomb, he reached into his bag, a
REASONABLE person would assume that he would either grab a weapon or
detonate the bomb.
Who are you saying is the inept fool- the baggage checkers or the air marshal?
A REAL professional would have surmised the guy didn't have a bomb since
that guy went through a baggage checkpoint. A REAL professional
would have opted for life in such a case, but the only job requirements
for being a Bush loony toon is being party loyal.
Split second decision.
Nobody made any decision, the air marshal reacted out pure fear.
A real professional would have the experience to know the guy
wasn't an imminent threat.
To me and many others the decision is clear. After the hijackings

You only care about yourself, certainly not the poor
guy suffering from bipolar disorder who was killed
by the trigger happy air marshal. I wouldn't trust
you to decide who lives and who dies in an emergency.
You clearly aren't experienced enough to make a call like that.

The question is - are you a TOTAL idiot? Or just a little?
At this time, not a single passenger said that the man said that he has a
bomb ..
It's only the OFFICIAL version that says that ...
And you know what to do with official statements ...
As about the co-worker you "would like to see dead" , bad luck to have a
jerk like you around.
I suppose you voted republican.. (:-)

If they go against what you think and feel you ignore them?
He reached into his bag! A air marshall (or for that matter any law
enforcement agent) doesn't know if he is reaching for a gun or a rubber
chicken, if you are willing to take that chance, that is on you.
When a cop TELLS you to drop to the ground and don't move....
DROP TO THE GROUND AND DON'T MOVE!!!
This poor man is the cause of his own destruction.

thing is even though the person was threatening to kill my jerk co-worker
and I wouldn't mind if he got hurt, I called security to get the situation
calmed down.

What's YOUR version? You think they shot him just for sport?
The funny part is that if this guy DID have a bomb and it went
off, you & your ilk would be the first to question why the authorities
didn't stop him in time. No doubt it would be Bush's fault.

Yes, the passeneger deserved death.....you just cant claim to have a
bomb unless you are willing accept the consequences. I believe this
could have been a case of suicide by air marshall...or at least it
should be treated as such....
He should also burn in hell for eternity for commiting suicide.
also.....his family should be taken to court for every last dime they
might have to ease this air marshalls pain.
