BEIJING - A North Korean test launch of a missile potentially
able to reach the United States would catapult the Korean
Peninsula crisis back into the spotlight and leave the Bush
administration with little leverage to respond, analysts say.
As a flurry of published reports Monday suggested Pyongyang had
finished fueling a missile and could be on the verge of a
launch, the United States and Japan implored the North not to
fire its first flight test in eight years.
Testing a missile would effectively end three years of ailing
negotiations, analysts say, and mark the lowest point for U.S.
and North Korean relations since talks began.
"North Korea has imposed a moratorium on launching missiles,"
said White House spokesman Tony Snow. "We hope it will continue
that moratorium and we hope it also will abide by commitments it
made" last year to dismantle nuclear arms and end further
development.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice warned Monday that "it would
be a very serious matter and indeed a provocative act" if North
Korea tested a missile.
She said the United States is working closely with its allies on
the problem but did not say what might be done if North Korea
tested the missile.

Lets see if the billions we spent on star wars will actually do
anything, like shoot the missle down.

But Korea is cheating. They are not giving the USA the plans to their
missiles or copies of their evasive software. Further they can change
it at any time, keeping the Star Wars folk off balance.
I say this is a feint. The actual blow will be by smuggled nuke.

It seems to me I read somewhere else that Korea is still some years
off from developing a missile capable of delivering a nuke. So this
is just psychological warfare.
It seems to me, that if North Korea wanted to nuke the USA, sending it
by missile would be the dumbest way imaginable. Radars and satellites
would instantly detect it and nuclear subs would immediately North
Korea to glass.
It would be much smarter to smuggle it inside a new Hyundai and have
it blow up on the docks in Seattle, Los Angles or San Diego. Then Bush
would scratch his head and try to guess which of his 200 enemies
capable of the deed did it. By the time he figured it out, North
Korea could have destroyed all of America's ports.

Sure makes it hard for Duh-Duh-Dubbyia to invade North Korea,
though.
And that's the purpose of the exercise.

Kim Jong Il is perfectly well aware of that.
So is Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Hugo Chavez will probably buy his nuclear weapons from North
Korea - he has lots of oil to sell.
