Object: Not a popular war.
If this were a righteous and necessary war, such as the Gulf War in
1991,
there would be no need for the Armed services to resort to baiting
recruits
into the service. The reason why recruitment is down is that Americans
realize this war has no substantial or obtainable goal. There never was
one.
In this war, Hussein did not pose a threat as he did in 1991 or Hitler
did
in World War II. This war has become George Bush's Vietnam, a war were
America has no business.
The wheels are coming off the Bush administration and the reason is
simple.
His own party members consider him the kiss of death with regard to
their
own re-election. Senators and House Representatives will not be
re-elected
in 2006 if they support an unpopular president insisting on the
senseless
murder of Americans soldiers in an unpopular war.
As it is, 54% of Americans disapprove of how the U.S. Congress, as a
whole,
is doing its job. Additionally 56% disapprove of how Republican members
of
Congress are doing their job. Even worse, only 40% are willing to
re-elect
the incumbents in 2006, (Washington Post, 2005). Clearly, the party is
over.
The war is destroying the Bush Administration and Congress is drifting
away
from Bush policies in Iraq.

If it were a popular war, would that make it any better? Was it
justified when more than 50% of the population supported it but become
unjustified when they didn't?

Better for what?
It wasn't justified (based on lies) two years ago and it's certainly not
justified now.
