Destroying the Talibans regime was necessary to fight terrorism.

War in Iraq was not, it was a big mistake and it brought Al Qaeda where it

wasn't.

Personnally, I would't want a single French soldier to die for Iraq or

Bush's war.
As if the cowards would show up anyways. I doubt the French would die for
anything, other than being forced to use deodoant or take a shower
occassionally.

As in "if it weren't for the French at war with England during the American
revolution, America may not have prevailed." This is a common rebuttal to

And it's a pretty weak comparison.

Perhaps because compared to Ford or Dodge, they are dirt cheep.

That's because nothing short of a mopar could handle the massive power and
then there is that cost thing again.

Agreed. Oil, as well as a stable Middle East is in our national interest.

From that point of view, Bush's policy appears to be purely desastrous.

I guess we should have Russia return to the days of communism. There has
been extreme turmoil in Russia since the demise of communism.

What does Russia have to do with this?

It's a prime example what occurs when you remove a dictatorial governement
and replace it with a semblance of a democratic one. It's also difficult
for the people who where once under strict control once you grant them
freedom. It will take some time for Iraq to have an effective government.

I see... Yes, you're right. I fear however that when Iraq gets a really
effective government chosen by the Iraqi people, it might not be the
pro-Western moderate kind of democracy that we could wish for, but, instead,
a pro-Iranian theocracy...
History will tell.
