Declaration Of Faith
The Apostles Creed

This historic affirmation of faith comes to us from the early
centuries of the Christian church.
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord;
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit;
Born of the virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, dead, and buried;
He descended into hell;
The third day he rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven
And sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit;
The holy catholic church; *
The communion of saints;
The forgiveness of sins;
The resurrection of the body;
And the life everlasting.
Amen.
* Note: "catholic church" here means the entire body of
believers in Christ, not just one particular church.

The Lord, Himself, taught us to pray like this . . .
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

Matthew 6:9-13
Scriptures And Teachings
Who Is My Neighbor?
A person becomes your neighbor when you can affect him or he can affect
you. A total stranger becomes your neighbor, temporarily, when you
(driving your car) encounter him (driving his car) on the highway. At
that point, each of you can affect the other to the point of life and
death, simply by causing (or not causing) an automobile wreck, which is
easily within your power to do.
In our inter-connected world today, millions of people have the power
to affect millions of other people, some more than others. For
instance, the President of the United States is neighbor to all people
in the world, because he has the power to affect everybody, if he
chooses to do so, for instance by starting (or not starting) a nuclear
war.
In the Bible, Jesus was asked, "who is my neighbor?" In reply, He gave
the Parable Of The Good Samaritan, which shows that when you can affect
someone, he becomes your neighbor. In this story, the Samaritan had the
power to affect the injured person. Before their encounter on the road
to Jericho, they were not neighbors, because neither had the power to
affect the other. But as soon as their paths crossed, they became
neighbors, at least for that moment. The Samaritan then acted as a good
neighbor by helping the injured man. Jesus approved of this, and He
tells all of us to "go and do likewise."
It is a bedrock Biblical principle that we are to love our neighbor as
ourself.
Bible, Revised Standard Version
Leviticus 19
[18] You shall not take vengeance or bear any grudge against the sons
of
your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the
LORD.
Matthew 5
[43] "You have heard that it was said, `You shall love your neighbor
and
hate your enemy.'
Matthew 19
[19] Honor your father and mother, and, You shall love your neighbor as
yourself."
Matthew 22
[39] And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
Mark.12
[31] The second is this, `You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'
There is no other commandment greater than these."
[33] and to love him with all the heart, and with all the
understanding,
and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as oneself, is
much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices."
Luke.10
[27] And he answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your
heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all
your mind; and your neighbor as yourself."
Romans 13
[8] Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves
his neighbor has fulfilled the law.
[9] The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery, You shall not
kill, You shall not steal, You shall not covet," and any other
commandment, are summed up in this sentence, "You shall love your
neighbor as yourself."
[10] Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling
of the law.
Galatians 5
[14] For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, "You shall love your
neighbor as yourself."
James 2
[8] If you really fulfil the royal law, according to the scripture,
"You
shall love your neighbor as yourself," you do well.

And because we are all now so totally inter-connected, every other
person in the world is our potential neighbor, at least to some extent.
So now it is appropriate for us to love ALL PEOPLE as ourselves,
because we are potential neighbors to everybody.
And, to me, this one concept, "Love all people as yourself," is the
absolute underlying principle of all right and wrong. This principle is
implemented - put into effect - when we treat others as we would like
to be treated, if our situations were reversed with theirs. The summary
of this idea is, "Treat others as you would like to be treated," which
is a generalized paraphrase of Matthew 7:12 in the Bible ( The Golden
Rule).
Blessings to you in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Prayer For You
For Patience
NOTE: When you read this prayer, try to imagine my voice as I
speak it to you. In this way, the prayer is reactivated,
and it is the same as if I were actually praying for you
at that moment.
MY PRAYER FOR YOU, THE READERS OF THIS PAGE
"For Patience"
Sometimes you feel that all is lost and gone;
You feel it is no use to carry on;
You cannot see the light that lies ahead.
I pray that you have patience at these times,
And know the Lord is working while you wait,
As after Jesus died upon the cross,
They didn't know that He would rise again.

DEAR LORD AND FATHER OF MANKIND
by John Greenleaf Whittier
Public Domain
Dear Lord and Father of mankind,
Forgive our foolish ways!
Reclothe us in our rightful mind,
In purer lives thy service find,
In deeper reverence, praise.
In simple trust like theirs who heard
Beside the Syrian sea
The gracious calling of the Lord,
Let us, like them, without a word,
Rise up and follow thee.
O Sabbath rest by Galilee!
O calm of hills above,
Where Jesus knelt to share with thee
The silence of eternity
Interpreted by love !
With that deep hush subduing all
Our words and works that drown
The tender whisper of thy call,
As noiseless let thy blessing fall
As fell thy manna down.
Drop thy still dews of quietness,
Till all our strivings cease;
Take from our souls the strain and stress,
And let our ordered lives confess
The beauty of thy peace.
Breathe through the heats of our desire
Thy coolness and thy balm;
Let sense be dumb, let flesh retire;
Speak through the earthquake, wind, and fire,
O still, small voice of calm!
