Object: Opposition to Alternative Energy: Duhh, what if there's no wind?
In the future, if there's no wind, too bad, no TV or internet for you,
unless you wanna ride your bike-generator to charge you solar
batteries up on a cloud day.
But see, with wind power, it is a somewhat more stable source of
energy.
True, the wind is not always blowing where you live maybe. But
there are what is called prevailing wind patterns, there are places in
the country where the wind blows in pretty much the same direction, at
a decent speed, all the time. This is because of global convection,
air rising at the equator, descending at 30 degrees lattitude, plus
the rotation of the earth drives the wind west to east for the most
part across the united states.
I mean, it's not like you have an option, if you like electricity,
you gotta develope a way to produce it. Wind energy will last 1000000
years, so will solar energy. Why not use our cheap fossil fuel
electricit to help us cheaply manufacture the means of production of
energy. in the future, the means of production of energy will be the
most important asset. What good is a road infrustructure without the
energy to move vehicles across it?

One problem with using wind energy is a lack of transmission lines in
areas of Kansas and other central states with significant wind
resources.
One thing that is often forgotten about solar power is that it is most
abundant when it is most needed to power air conditioning on hot
summer days.

Wind energy has been prohibited by envirowhackos in some areas because they
claim to kill some rare species of bird. Also, in Massachussets, there was a
proposal to allow windmills to be erected, but Teddy Kennedy raised hell
about it because they would have been within view from his estate. Liberals
are good at suggesting alternative means, just as long as it doesn't affect
them, and as long as you pay for it.
The answer is more nuclear power plants, especially in the west, like
California....where not one new power station of any kind has been built in
over 15 years because the envirowhackos are preventing ANY new sources of
power being built. This is what led to the power crisis a couple of years
ago. Nuclear power is clean and safe, despite the fears raised in the 70's
after the movie "China Syndrome". It is easy to say, "we need alternative
sources of power" to run automobiles, electric plants, etc, but the
technology is still too expensive for the end user. We also need to be able
to drill in the lifeless 1% area of ANWR to reduce our dependence on foreign
sources of oil.
If our energy infrasturcture continues to sit idle without expanding on
it, the power crisis in the west a couple of years ago will become the norm,
and gas prices will continue to surge, as demand in other parts of the world
continue to increase(especially in Asia), this will continue to drive up
prices since there are no new sources of oil. Same can be said for
electricity. Supply/demand! A simple concept libs will never understand.
