The American Public just don't want to cut and run, but they don't want
to get bogged down in nation building either, so here's a plan that does
both:
1. Pull American troops back into three or four major bases in Iraq;
including the Green Zone, Baghdad International Airport, one in the
south and one in the north.
2. And keep them there - no patrols, no police work, no nation building ...
---
What are the strategic advantages for such a plan?
1. We still keep forces in the area to protect the oil.
2. We effectively block Iran from invading Iraq.
3. We can still influence, although to a lesser degree, the development
of Iraq.
4. We keep forces near the Saudis, who we shouldn't be trusting that
much anyway. Remember that 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudi.
---
What would happen if we did?
1. Americans would stop dying in such great numbers.
2. Yes, Iraq would probably break out into and open civil war, with the
resulting carnage, killing and death - but just for a time (Just like
what happened in Vietnam.)
3. Later, say in one or two years, things would settle down into a
stable form of government we would establish trade and diplomatic
relations with. (Again, just like in Vietnam.)
