Poll sees global warming link to Katrina

WASHINGTON, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- A Washington pollster says the majority
of U.S. residents are connecting intense weather events like Hurricane
Katrina and heat waves to global warming.
The Zogby America telephone poll, sponsored by the National Wildlife
Federation, says majorities of likely voters in both political parties
favor requirements on industries to limit "greenhouse" emissions.
Nearly three of every four of those surveyed said they are more
convinced today that global warming is a reality than they were two
years ago, the polls said.
Eighty-seven percent of Democrats said they believe in global warming,
with 56 percent of Republicans agreeing. Eighty-two percent of
independents also said they think the United States is experiencing
the effects of global warming.
The survey, conducted Aug. 11-16, included 1,018 respondents. It
carries a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points, said
Zogby, which has offices in Washington and Utica, N.Y.

Since the majority of US residents know absolutely nothing about
climatology, they can only be echoing what they've heard on TV.
So, this is really a poll measuring how well certain messages are
conveyed to the public.

Exactly.
Global warming "MUST" be true. After all, a poll of idiots says so.
This is the way the average moron, who usually pulls the lever for
Democrats, thinks.

Presumably then, all Republicans are elected by idiots too.
Some choice ...

Panel Tells Bush Global Warming Is Getting Worse
By KATHARINE Q. SEELYE with ANDREW C. REVKIN
WASHINGTON, June 6 — A panel of top American scientists declared today
that global warming was a real problem and was getting worse, a
conclusion that may lead President Bush to change his stand on the issue
as he heads next week to Europe, where the United States is seen as a
major source of the air pollution held responsible for climate change.
In a much-anticipated report from the National Academy of Sciences, 11
leading atmospheric scientists, including previous skeptics about global
warming, reaffirmed the mainstream scientific view that the earth's
atmosphere was getting warmer and that human activity was largely
responsible.

That's one way to look at it.
But, doesn't it trouble you that "the majority" of people, who
presumably have absolutely no clue what they're talking about, will
claim to "know" that current weather events are related to global
warming?
What else might they be convinced of next year by an appropriately
structured advertising campaign?

Well, there's always the "1 + 1 = 3 is a valid answer" crowd.
But, doesn't it trouble you that "the majority" of people, who

It's funny what education can do for people.
What else might they be convinced of next year by an appropriately

Ask the RNC. Or the gas and oil companies. Or the tobacco lobby. Or
the Discovery Institute. Hey, I'd been convinced for quite a while that
washing cloth diapers was as bad for the environment as disposable
diapers. It's easy to believe what you want to believe, and I didn't
look into it too closely.

Let's see...since Katrina was due to global warming and there
have been no hurricanes this year, global warming must be over.

It's a religious thing. If the majority of the people believe in Jesus
than it must be so.
The current theory among the "higher minded" is that Mother Earth is a
benign, nurturing and unchanging environment for all her creatures.
They also believe that all geologic and climatic history began around
1979 and that any event that threatens Earth's creatures is
unprecedented and has been caused by humankind who is thought to be
some form of extra terrestrial virus. Their proof of this is in their
computer models and the words of their prophet Al Gore. -- Captain
