PRESIDENTIAL POWER GRAB, UNITARY EXECUTIVE THEORY, AND RUBBER-STAMP SAM ALITO ON THE SUPREME COURT, APPROVING EVEYTHING BUSH WANTS TO DO |
It is 7:40 PM on Jan 25, 2005. I have just finished watching Sen. *****
Durbin speak against the nomination of Samuel Alito.
He came very, very close to getting it exactly right, by focusing
sharply on the issue of excessive Presidential power and the Unitary
Executive Theory.
But here is one thing we simply must start to do if we want to defeat
the Alito nomination:
TRY TO GET THE VOTES OF THE ON-THE-FENCE REPUBLICANS!
And the only way to do this is to focus completely on Presidential
power, and the Bush power grab, and the fact that Alito will surely
support Bush in any power grab, based on the Unitary Executive Theory.
Specifically, if they decide I am causing too much trouble, they can
burst in and put me in one of their secret prisons. For typing messages
to you.
That's where it's going, with Bush asserting, falsely, that the
Constitution authorizes him to do things like this whenever he feels
like it, regardless of specific laws to the contrary.
This is craziness, and all but the dumbest Republican can see it. The
Libertarians are angry with Bush already. We should be able to pick up
maybe 6 to 10 Republican votes and actually defeat the Alito
nomination.
Somehow let them save face, so they are not embarrassed to change their
vote after declaring for Alito, and then let them vote with us against
Alito because they fear that he will not restrain the over-reaching
power-hungry monster we have somehow allowed to become President of our
Country.
But then, we foolishly start talking about things that just make the
Republicans stay with Alito, and not jump ship with us. WE MUST STOP
TALKING ABOUT THESE THINGS, BECAUSE IT JUST HURTS OUR CHANCES OF
GETTING THEIR VOTES>
Face it, fellow Democrats: Most people don't like abortion very much,
and hate partial-birth abortion. So don't try to sell them on these
things now, because it will not work.
And most people feel that some religion in Public places is their
right. They are the public! If they want to pray in public, in a group,
who can tell them no? Right or wrong, that's what they believe. And
their Republican Senators believe these things, too. SO WE SHOULD
SIMPLY SHUT UP ON THESE OTHER ISSUES, AND STICK TO THE ONE THAT WE CAN
WIN WITH: PRESIDENTIAL POWER GRAB, UNITARY EXECUTIVE THEORY, AND
RUBBER-STAMP SAM ALITO ON THE SUPREME COURT, APPROVING EVEYTHING BUSH
WANTS TO DO.
