Proposed Torture Policy Of The United States Of America - "We Oppose Torture Everywhere, In Every Case, In Any Form, For Any Reason." |
Proposed Torture Policy Of The United States Of America

We propose that Congress adopt these words as the official torture
policy of the United States Of America:
"We Oppose Torture Everywhere, In Every Case, In Any Form, For Any
Reason. And We Prohibit The Use Of Torture By All Branches Of The
United States Government And By All Entities Acting By Authority Of The
United States Of America, Under Penalty Of Law."
Here are our reasons:
Torture is totally wrong, completely against the will of God. It is the
exact opposite of God's one law for everyone, which is "Love all people
as yourself." (See http://www.loveallpeople.org/godsonelaw.html)
Torture grossly violates the Golden Rule, "Treat others as you would
like to be treated," which is the almost-universal ethical standard for
the world. (See http://www.loveallpeople.org/golden.html)
Moreover, torture of prisoners is a bad way to get true information
because people will tell you anything you want to hear, just to stop
the pain. Then, you take action based on false information, and the
result is worse than if you had done nothing. (This fact demolishes the
so-called "Ticking Bomb" justification for torture.)
Furthermore, "If we torture theirs, they will surely torture ours." So
our guiding principle should be, "Don't do to their people what we
don't want done to our people." (Note: this principle also applies to
bombing and to all other hostile activities.)
Also, once you open the door to torture, for any reason, you invite a
horde of other unexpected depraved activities to occur, such as the
sado-sexual crimes at Abu Ghraib and other places. (See
http://www.google.com/search?q=Abu+Ghraib)
We should also recognize the fact that some people desire to torture
others simply to inflict pain, either for revenge or for sick sexual
thrills, as in Abu Ghraib. For them, "obtaining information" is just an
excuse to torture.
Finally, it is completely against hundreds of years of American policy
and tradition. We are supposed to be the good guys. We must not follow
the brutal example set by some other people. Torture must always be
unacceptable for us, in every case.

Blessings to you. May God help us all.

There is never a valid logical reason or ethical justification for
torture. It is wrong and stupid, just like Bush.
