Prosecutors, Investigating DeLay, Seek Texas GOP Bank Records |
DeLay and two associates are accused of funneling $190,000 in
corporate contributions through a political committee and an arm of
the National Republican Committee to seven GOP legislative candidates
in the November 2002 general election.
Republicans that year took control of the state House, leading to a
redistricting plan that also allowed the GOP to win a majority of
seats in Texas' congressional delegation in 2004.
Earle contends DeLay and his associates tried to circumvent state law
barring spending corporate money on most campaign expenses.
DeLay, who is running for re-election, awaits trial on the felony
charges and denies any wrongdoing.
The indictments forced him to give up his post as majority leader.
