DENVER - Smoking would be illegal in public places in Colorado except
casinos beginning July 1 under legislation likely headed for the
governor’s desk.
The state Senate voted 19-15 Thursday to approve the Colorado Clean
Indoor Air Act, and Gov. Bill Owens has said he would sign just about
any compromise bill that lawmakers send him. The House is expected to
vote on and approve the measure today, which would put the bill in
Owens’ hands.

Chuck Ford of the Colorado Licensed Beverage Association lobbied
relentlessly against the legislation on behalf of small bars and
taverns.
“The bottom line is that our bars and taverns will not survive; huge
numbers will go out of business,” he said. “This is the most
hypocritical piece of crap I’ve ever seen go through this Legislature
in 20 years.”

Are the casinos on reservations?
We have casinos in CA, but they are all on reservations. That's how
they skirt the smoking ban here.
There are "card rooms" in some cities, but you cannot smoke there.
I don't have a problem, even as an avid cigar smoker and a progressive
banning smoking in most places, particularly public buildings,
restaurants and such, but I think that bars should be able to opt in
or out of the smoking ban.
We are blessed in a lot of our state with good weather so there are
plenty of patios in a lot of places that gladly allow smoking, but not
everyone has our sunshine ratio.
I was surprised that NYC banned all smoking including bars. I mean
you go there and fucking EVERYONE seems to smoke.
We are all over 21 year old adults, and if I don't want to go into a
bar that's smokey, I can opt not too. It seems ok to poison your
liver in the same place.
Proper ventilation works wonders, too..

That's a weak argument. Like saying drunk driving should be legal and
if the sober drivers don't like it, they can walk.
The DUIs and the smokers are the ones endangering innocent people.

When I get in my car, I am expecting that the other drivers on the
road will be obeying the rules just the same that I am. And I have a
right to expect that.
If, however, the bar on the corner allows smoking, I need not ever
walk in, thus avoiding all chances of second hand smoke.
Like I said, I do not have a problem with almost all bans on smoking,
even as a cigar smoker. Particularly in restaurants.
Though I always thought it was funny that you can have small patio out
back fenced in and with umbrellas and somehow that's ok.
I think that bars that did allow smoking before a ban in a state
should be able to opt out if they want to.
They can easily make more people happy by allowing smoking, but
installing better ventilation systems.

They should ban fat people. Obesity causes more
death and disease than smoking, but people have obsessed about smoking
instead.

You missed the point. Fatties don't harm OTHER people.
