"WASHINGTON, Nov. 10 — Federal investigators have documented 1,300 cases
of lost, stolen or abandoned radioactive material inside the United
States over the past five years and have concluded that there is a
significant risk that terrorists could cobble enough together for a
dirty bomb."
later on, they state:
"Beth Hayden, a spokeswoman for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, said
the agency recognized the potential dangers of such materials and
al-Qaida’s interest in them — “there are millions of sources,” she said.
But she added that most of the 1,300 lost radiological sources were
subsequently recovered and that the public should keep the threat in
perspective."
So, which is it? Either the government should do something
about it or not.
While they are at it, they should explain why the Bushies:
1) Cancelled funding that was being used by Russia to round up canesters
of Strontium-90 and Cesium-137 they have lying about.
2) Are intent on shipping high level nuclear waste from power plants
through major cities in the US. All it takes is one RPG from a terrorist
and you've got a nuclear disaster in a city.
3) Wants to restart nuclear power in the US, thus creating a lot more
opportunities for terrorists here.
