And you will have fought against and stop the one bill, now in mid

I hear Bush is going to try to have this current bill passed again.

Putting the ad hominem aside, if this was the best offer, it's not
nearly good enough, in fact, it stinks to high heaven, and we did good
to pass on it.

As bad as the status quo is, that bill promised to make it worse by
magnitudes, announcing to the world that all you have to do is crash
the border and wait it out. Eventually, we will give up and make you
legal. In the meantime, counties, cities, and states will be
obligated to provide you with social services and educate your
children, if you become seriously ill or injured, hospitals have to
treat you, even though they won't get paid.

cause and is going to assert itself.

None. Since Congress has shown it cannot be trusted to undertake good
faith efforts at border control and internal enforcement, there is no
reason to think that, left to their own devices, they will do it in
the future. Once the goodies have been given out, funding for border
control and enforcement lapses due to the business interests not
wishing it to be done. That's the 1986 bill that got us into the
mess, that's what the current bill would replicate on a vaster scale.
