But this is immaterial to what Riain and I are saying.
Just because someone with a gun says "You're a Jew" it doesn't make them a
Jew.

Susan

But that, too, is irrelevant to the argument. I don't think there is a
single post where anyone asserts that owning a gun gives them the right to
declare who is and who is not Jewish. Nor can I comprehend from where and
how you managed to reach this conclusion.
OF COURSE, owning weapons or not is irrelevant to someone's being Jewish.
HOWEVER, since the set of "Jews" has historically been a subset of the set
of "frequent victims," it seems only reasonable that Jews will utilize
whatever tools are available to minimize the probability of their becoming
victims again during their own lifetimes. Firearm ownership and training is
simply one of these tools, albeit very likely the most effective.

Well, maybe it's irrelevent to *that* argument.
I am only discussing that no one & nothing but Jewish law decides who is
Jewish.

I was not the one who said this at all.
I was arguing with someone who did make that statement - that because the
Nazis had guns, they got to decide who was/not Jewish.
At *most* they got to decide who they were going to treat as Jews, but
that's not the same thing, & it's not what was being said.

And you can argue that until you are blue in the face.
What *I* am saying is that the Germans decided (for purposes of life
and death) who was Jewish according to THEIR standards.
And plenty of people who might not be considered Jewish according to
Jewish law are dead beacuse of it.

Nor can I comprehend from where and

how you managed to reach this conclusion.

Yes, that's quite true. Now, do I agree with their interpretation?
Probably not.
That makes no difference to the dead.
The people with the guns decide the law.
