Yeah, so?

So Kerry is relying on convicted felons in this campaign.

Better than Kerry. BTW, Gore's campaign was also bankrolled by Ken Lay. The
difference between getting DUI and not is: whether or not you get stopped by

Better than Kerry. BTW, Gore's campaign was also bankrolled by Ken Lay.

Funny definition of "bankrolled." Lay gave $100,000 directly to Bush,
and hundreds of thousands of dollars to the GOP through soft dollar
contributions, as well as an additional $300,000 for the Bush
inauguration. Lay gave NO money to the Democrats (though Enron gave a
whopping $13,750 to the Gore campaign). And, of course, as result Lay
bought himself access to Cheney's secret energy commission, though
Cheney's steadfast refusal to let the American people see how his
energy policy was bought & paid for by the energy industry (including
Enron) is on its way to the Supreme Court.

The difference between getting DUI and not is: whether or not you get stopped
by a cop.

So it's ok if you don't get caught? I guess you're saying that DUI
doesn't matter because some people get away with it. Or maybe you're
conceding that, while Bush & Cheney together share 3 DUI convictions,
they most likely violated the law far more often than that, but just
didn't get caught.

Kerry is on record lying to Congress about Vietnam. He is also on
record as saying he "gave his medals back", yet he actuay gave someone ese's
medals back. He's a lying sack of *****.

Prove it. Then explain why his lies are more significant than Bush's
repeated lies to Congress, the American public, and the world at large
in order to get us to unilaterally wage war on a nation that posed no
threat whatsoever to our national security.

News of 19-year-old Albert Gore III's Sept. 5 drunk driving arrest wasn't

Washington Times broke the news blockade yesterday.
The media cover-up of Gore Jr.'s latest brush with the law stands in marked
contrast to alcohol-related offenses involving the Bush family, stories the
press has repeatedly rushed into print over the last two years."

As for his kids:

Funny, I'm pretty sure Gore's kids weren't running for office.
Besides, given the antics of the Bush girls, getting into a pissing
match over whose kids have a greater proclivity for underage drinking
and drug use seems like a losing proposition for any Bush fan. The
difference, of course, is that Bush has used his presidency to make
the so-called "War On Drugs" even more draconian, favoring long prison
terms and the denial of an education to any kids caught doing exactly
what his own kids have been caught doing repeatedly (yet somehow
evading the strict punishment he confers on others). Find me a Bush
fan who isn't a complete hypocrite on the drug issue, and I'll find
you a cow with wings.

I have no idea what this means. I do know that nobody gives a *****
what Bush's girls do -- I certainly don't. What I care about is his
hypocrisy in upping the penalties for doing exactly what his own
daughters have repeatedly done, and Bush has himself admitted doing.
In Bush's America, marijuana smokers can receive 25 years in prison.
Simple possession of pot means never obtaining a student loan.
Ashcroft is cracking down on cancer patients smoking pot to ease

himself in to the local authorities for his coke use.

Why so hostile? Some anonymous person (i.e. me) writes a message on a
newsgroup, and you get so worked up you can't utter a coherent
sentence without resorting to profanity and name-calling? You really
need to do something about your self-esteem. It's pretty sad.
In any event, I defy you to demonstrate (with citation, none of this
"I'm conservative, I can just make it up" business) that, during the
'00 election, more attention was paid to Bush's kids than Gore's. Go
for it. As for coverage of the Bush girls AFTER their father stole
the presidency -- it's actually been shockingly hands-off, part of the
media's kid-glove treatment of Bush. Not that the press SHOULD focus
on the girls, but they could certainly do more to point out Bush's
hypocrisy in revving up the drug war while excusing the same conduct
in his own family. And Bush more or less ADMITTED being a coke head
-- he claimed he hasn't used it in 17 years, and anything prior to
that is his own business (funny how drug use isn't one's own business
for anyone but Bush & his kids under Bush's drug war). As someone who
has been a federal prosecutor, I'd KILL for a defendant to give such a
"denial" -- it'd make my job a whole lot easier.

"What is "insider" trading?
The essential principle of socialism, applied to the physical realm,
is that property belongs to the "public" regardless of who undertook
the effort to create the property. The insider trading laws are its
intellectual corollary; if government can take control of the physical
creations of your body, it is no great stretch to expect it will take
control the intellectual results of your mind, i.e., knowledge. The
result is the socialist corruption of the free market known as
"insider" trading. The idea that knowledge gained within a company,
about that company and its products, belongs to the public, because
that company sells its shares to the public."
As I said a non-crime in the same class as tax evasion an invention of
the state for it's benefit.

Looks like you wouldn't have a problem with a local furniture store that went
out of business. They continued taking down payments and writing contracts right
up to the day they closed, KNOWING they would not be making delivery on these
sales. They knew, the customers didn't. So what, right?

John, I respectfully have to disagree here. Stocks pay dividends that
provide an income stream to pension funds and other retired persons. Union
members, teachers, and charitable organizations that rely on block gifts of
stock are affected when stock values go up or down.
Insider trading depends on foreknowledge of what's going to happen to a
company: the product is turned down by the FDA, an obscure patent is found
delaying market entry ... things like that have a material impact on the
worth of that stock in the market place, and a worthless stock pays nothing
to anybody. When management bails out of its' own company and leaves the
stockholders with nothing, these guys have deprived people of part of their
livelihoods both now and into the foreseeable future.
And any time you inflict that kind of harm on folks you don't even know has
to be held a crime.
My two cents.

"The modern academic literature now recognizes that there is no
significant economic harm to any identifiable group of investors from
insider trading. The serious literature does not even address that
question anymore. The SEC still makes the “fairness” argument3—
the argument that it is not fair for some people to have property and
others not to have it—but most scholars now understand the
intellectual merit of that kind of argument."
So the evidence doesn't appear to support your views.
