Tornillo sentenced to 27 months in prison for misusing teachers union
funds

Pasquale ''Pat'' Tornillo Jr., the ailing, 78-year-old labor leader,
will likely spend the rest of his life in prison for plundering the
dues of the thousands of Miami-Dade public-school teachers he
represented for nearly four decades.
A federal judge on Monday sentenced the legendary head of the United
Teachers of Dade to 27 months in prison. Under a controversial plea
agreement, he faced 24 to 30 months.
Tornillo will have to pay $800,000 in restitution to the UTD --
including $650,000 within 30 days for misusing funds and the other
$150,000 within six months to cover the union's attorney and
accountant expenses.
$800,000 would pay for a lot of school choice vouchers.....
