Are you familiar with the life and work of Elias Ashmole? To my mind, if
there is any connection between Freemasonry and the occult,
Freemasonry IS an occult.
To comprehend what occult it, you need to comprehend what
symbology as such is. Once you comprehend that, the rest
is clear.
Another way to look at it is to ask what is symbology?
Occult IS symbology.
It is a BELIEF in symbols and associated energy.
Basically, it all translates into energy phenomenon eventually.
A life force balance. Either you have life energy
and trust or you have doubt. Doubt into validity of your
own being and the ability to "survive".
Why would you believe in ANY symbol, whatever it might be?
Well, in hope to get in touch with certain energy phenomenon.
Basically, it reduces to the issue of "power".
There are many ways to look at it, but it will eventually
translate into a very limited set of issues.
All this "craft", "majick" is ALL symbology
and nothing but symbology.
Interestingly enough, it is all belief.
It is a BELIEF in certain things.
Belief, translated into a focusing of your attention
or energy manifests itself under certain circumstances,
the primary of which is the agreement from the target
of this energy focusing. Just like in hyphonsis.
You can not hypnotize certain individuals, no matter
what you do. The same thing is valid for "lie detectors".
If you do not believe in it, you are not affected.
If you are fragile enough and do not have enough
trust to your own being, you will be subject to these
energy manipulations. Simply inevitable.
The same thing is valid with ALL religions.
It is ALL BELIEF.

We have people making a living out of connecting Masons with Martians,
people supporting themselves 'proving' Masonic connections with Osiris
and all sorts of crap. As humorous as it sounds, there are those who
absolutely believe it at the core of their being. (A bunch of them also
think that Harry Potter is evil incarnate - but that's for another
newsgroup!)
