I think we are definitely seeing the SOP defense tactic for wealthy
offenders from now on...simply wear 'em down.
Maybe they should just let him off when the bill reaches $500,000?
If they think they can convict him, then spend whatever it takes. Michael
Jackson is a high-profile case which will greatly raise awareness, and
potentially discourage child molesters (in and outside the US) from
committing further crimes, thus keeping children from harm.
But, on the other hand, why are our jails and prisons filled with minor drug
offenders? Spend the money on convicting the criminals who are a danger to
society, instead of spending $35,000 annually *per inmate* to maintain the
largest prison population in the world (by a wide margin).
